TV series theme songs/intros

Perhaps we have discussed this before, but what are your favorite tv series theme songs?

I like the song for Justified, although I think it is too short. It is by a band called Gangstagrass that mixes bluegrass and rap, a fascinating mix if there ever was one.

I love the theme and opening sequence of shots for Band of Brothers, but it is a bit on the long side. Ditto for The Pacific, but also too long. Both are beautifully done.

The theme for The Wire is very good, and I like how they used a different cover each year. The Domaje version was my favorite.

I like the theme for Mad Men. Short and stylish.

On the bad side, the theme for The Killing was pathetic. Completely forgettable.

But my all-time favorite is the theme for The Sopranos. Perfect length, perfect match with the series, and never failed to get my heart beating on a new episode.

Man Men intro is great, but it is made perfect by the graphics. I've gotta agree with you on The Sopranos intro as well (which reminds me, that I should watch that series again... if only I owned it on DVD).

Another very good one is the opening music to Treme, which is a show about New Orleans music as much as it is a show about anything. Whenever we watch this show, the whole family is up and dancing and singing though the intro.

For some reason the intro to Weeds was much better than the actual show. Or at least I thought so.

The show is terrible, but oddly addicting (sort of like Survivor). Their best music came from the second season, where every week there was a different cover of the theme. That was a pretty cool gimmick.

I liked the opening song for Terriers .

Too bad this show isn't coming back, it was great.

Northern Exposure, I love the lightheartedness of it.

Samford & Son, I hear this song in my head every time I pull into my mom's driveway.

House, it's an older song, but I love it.

Breaking Bad, gets me happy.

I think HBO's Rome opening was very well done.

I second the praise for the The Wire.

But, as for the best one, I still like hearing the Cheers song.

Among all the shows I've ever watched, the only themes songs I never skipped were Friday Night Lights and The O.C.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Jazz Alley was just hosting "A Night In Treme," and they had artists who do the music on the show performing a whole bunch of stuff, including the theme song. A buddy of mine checked it out and said it was a ton of fun. You should see if they're heading to LA.

You wouldn't think so, but it's catchy and gets stuck in your head. I still remember it 20+ years later. Seinfeld had it on an episode as well.

I've never watched an entire episode, but I always pause to watch Mary-Louise Parker for a few minutes. She's one fine cougar.

Dexter, like Mad Men, is another example of where good music is made perfect by the combo of visuals.

Game of Thrones. I watched this series over the weekend and am completely enthralled, can't wait for the next season.

No doubt, how did I forget Dexter? My wife hates to watch it because it's so creepy, but she always wants to watch it because it's so stunning. I do find the shirt over the head to be a little homoerotic, which I'm not sure matters to the story, but when the shirt grabs his bottom lip, and it bounces in slow motion while he looks at the camera, I guarantee you that that's a hit among gay men.
