  • Extreme home makeover show..

    http://www.deseretnews.com/article/7...th-Jordan.html

My oldest son has a friend who lives across the street from the site of where they're building this house. I had to drive out there and sign a permission form for his face to be allowed to be seen on tv. There is production equipment all over the place, with some of it on the front lawn of my son's friend's home.

While there, one of the on-camera people (not sure who, as I've never seen the show) approached a group of us who were watching all the goings on and asked our opinions of the project. I told her that I thought it was nice that they were doing it, but if I lived near enough to a site they were working on, I would tell them to get the hell off my property. She walked away with a surprised look on her face.

They made-over a home about a mile from where I lived in Middleton, Idaho. It was for a member in the ward next to us and a friend from high school. It was complete chaos and a non-stop trail of volunteers, as well as looky-loos. The quality was sacrificed in some of the finishing touches but overall I came away very impressed.

I haven't watch an episode in over a year but I never missed one before. I really enjoy watching what can be done in a short amount of time.

It's definitely an impressive feat to do what they do. In this particular case, it's a very worthy cause for the little boy. And MLS is doing a check at all the stadiums in the league for bone marrow matches as well.

FWIW, the young man doing his Eagle project is my son's friend. My boy has really enjoyed helping out and I'm happy that he's realizing that helping people is a good thing.

That is a great lesson to learn at an early age.

Exactly. If someone needs my help, they certainly don't need it on my lawn. I'll be happy to help them on their lawn.

One can imagine that the winter time on IPU's street, after a deep snow, there are yellow splotches at the corners of his property. I believe Nirvana did a song about it.

Are you talking about the Bowie song they covered or the neighbors letting their dogs pee on my property? Either one can be prevented with rock salt in a 12 gauge.

Blood transfusions every six to eight weeks? That totally blows. Give it a couple of years and this poor kid won't be able to get blood because of the antibodies and iron overload.

Cleaning out both the milkshake and the ice cream machine on Sunday night? That totally blows. Give it a couple of weeks between breaking down both of them at the same time. The poor kid who has to clean both of those contraptions in a single night really gets his body overloaded like he's pumping iron all night long.

The crew is really only there for a week. They work all hours of the night to make sure it gets done within their strict time frame. I'd allow anyone to come onto my yard for a few days to help out a family in need, rather than be in that family's shoes. Our friends situation in particular. 3 of their 4 children suffer from EOS. At the rodeo last year, the dad drank a milkshake and then sipped from a bottled water. Their daughter with EOS took a sip before they could stop her and within 20 minutes she was swelling and breaking out into hives. CRAZY. The husband went back to school FT to find a cure for his kids. The local high school burned down and the high school sweethearts spent everyday trying to raise money for the library in the new school. They're super active in the community and the church. They don't think twice to help other people. The husband recently underwent his 3rd brain surgery. A family like this deserves a new home.
