Down with the 80's

At the risk of alienating myself from il Pad, 80's music sucks. I would have a tough time assembling a top 10 albums from the 80's. The pop/rock music was all that good and it is one of the worst decades for jazz music. In fact, I would say that jazz was basically dead in the 80's with the exception of a few notable Herbie Hancock albums. Good thing that the 90's revived jazz.

I thought Spyro Gyra was really good. They were more of a fusion band though.

This is how I feel about the 70s. The seventies was a musical drought as far as I'm concerned. 50s, 60s, spectacular. 80s, nothing better. That missing decade in between, though: pure tripe.

70s was an absolutely great musical decade. The funk music of the 70s was simply fantastic. Stevie Wonder, Parliament, Funkadelic, James Brown, and Kool and the Gang before J.T. Taylor, just to name a few. Not to mention some really solid jazz being produced at the time. Freddie Hubbard cut 2 fantastic albums in Red Clay and Straight Life. On the Corner is one of the most underrated Miles Davis albums. Headhunters was a jazz/funk masterpiece.

You can find some good music in the seventies. But I judge a decade's music by it's biggest hits. If you look at the pop charts, it was just awful stuff. Debbie Boone? Barbra Streisand? Crystal Gayle? Elton John? It just goes on and on. blech. You have to sift through an awful lot of chaff to get to the good stuff.

80s are overrated, but Thriller might be my favorite album ever.

I'd bet I've seen The Jazz Singer 40 times. That's highest quality stuff.

I can't in good conscience support the work of a man who would turn on the spotlight in the middle of a young boy's dream, and who entertains himself with existential discourse with office furniture.

I can't in good conscience support the work of a man who would turn on the spotlight in the middle of a young boy's dream, and who entertains himself with existential discourse with office furniture.

But the chair would listen, dont you see? That;'s the point, no on cared, NOT EVEN THE CHAIR! It makes me weep just thinking about the moment of his realization. Fortunaltely, I ahve always had very caring chairs.
