  • Family films out now

I am thinking of taking the kids to the movies today or tomorrow. The three kid-friendly movies out now and at our theater are:

    Gnomeo & Juliet
    Mars Needs Moms
    Rango

Have any of you seen any of these? Are any of these worth seeing? Any I should avoid? I am leaning toward Rango, cuz I got a thing for Johnny Depp, but my oldest said a kid in his class thought it was dumb.
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

I saw Rango with my 13 year old. I sort fo liked it, but the best jokes are in the trailer. The animation is amazing.

My 13 year old liked it less than I did. He thought it was dull.
      PLesa excuse the tpyos.

I haven't seen any of them, but the first time I saw the trailer for Mars Needs Moms, I thought it looked terrible. Nothing I have seen has changed my prediction, and it is supported by Rotten Tomatoes, where Rango is the favorite of the three:

        Rango: 89%
        Gnomeo and Juliet: 55%
        Mars Need Moms: 38%

          Gnomeo and Juliet looks creative.

Like Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Mars Needs Moms comes from a children's picture book that had a title that was more clever than the story. The movie Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, was pretty cute though.

I think I liked Rango more than my kids liked it. Haven't seen the others, but my kids seemed to like Gnomeo and Juliet. They have been trying to talk me into buying some gnomes for our yard.

I didn't see it with them, but all three of my kids (4, 7, 9) really liked Gnomeo and Juliet.

Gnomeo should have been about 35-45 minutes and it would have been fun and cute. Instead it went on for about 30 minutes too long and the entire fam left bored.

Gnomeo and Juliet is terrible but the group of 5-year olds I took adored it. Rango is much funnier for adult fans of spaghetti westerns than it is for kids.
Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

Completely agree with this. My younger kids (4 and 6) basically wanted to leave Rango early. There is nothing very likable about Rango or any of the other characters for little kids. And the older kids (9, 11) seemed bored.

Go see "The Last Lions," a movie produced by National Geographic. It's in theaters now and is awesome. My 7, 5, and 2 year olds loved it. So did my wife, who now considers herself a mother lion. You'll understand after you see it.

It looks good, but it is not playing here unfortunately.

I am rethinking the movie thing. It sounds like none of the choices are any good. We'll have to find something else to do.

After all your glowing reviews, we decided to use the money we would have spent on movie tickets on a new Wii game we could all play together.

This is how it was in our family too. My kids preferred Gnomeo to Rango. I actually didn't really like Rango that much myself.
