  • Carl Bloch exhibit at the BYU Art Museum

Has anyone gone to check this out? It has been there since Nov and will be wrapping up in May. I guess I hadn't heard about it. I'm always the last to know.

I think I might take the Puffy Check to see it.

    Also of interest:

The Museum of Art has produced an iPad application to enhance the gallery experience for this exhibition. iPads pre-loaded with this app can be rented for $3. The in-gallery iPad experience will enhance visitors' understanding and appreciation of Carl Bloch' works. It has multiple segments that contextualize the paintings by showing their original locations in Denmark, explain the nuances of each work within its Biblical setting, and educate viewers about specific artistic techniques and their significance.
Sounds like a fun and educational trip for everyone.

If anyone has already visited, how did you enjoy it? Admission is free but online reservations are recommended.

    Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

It is a terrific exhibit. Admission is free, but they will charge you $2 or $3 for an IPad rental. Definitely get the IPad for the interactive features.

I went on Saturday night and really enjoyed it. I actually appreciated his paintings of the Savior - some of which are stunning - than I did the one room which had his works that people weren't paying him to do. There were two that really caught my attention, here's one of them.

Also don't miss the exhibition on American war iconography which will give you this among other gems:

I saw it. It's always worth checking out the BYU Art Museum whenever they have new exhibits.

Everything is preloaded on the rental units. Audio commentary, video, 360-views of the churches that house the paintings, etc.

Trying to remember how tight security is. Can I make it out to a getaway car with two $3 iPad rentals in hand?

                They hold your drivers license.

Right, which is why I wonder whether the iPads are jailbroken. You can't get the app they are describing in the App Store. But perhaps Apple has a separate edu branch of apps that are approved but not for purchase by the general public.

I didn't make it to the exhibit Saturday, but it was a splendid place to park the car for the big game at the Marriott.

We caught it while there in Feb. Very nice but we picked the wrong time (Sat. a.m.). It was very crowded.

Knock it off. This board has enough problems without a dose of middle-age lechery.

I'm going on Saturday. I'd write a review, but I'll probably spend more time paying attention to my date than the art.
                          Not that, sickos.

Good luck talking to her. The day we went there was such solemnity that it felt awkward to speak above a whisper. Not sure what that was about. I didn't need to yell or anything, but did want to talk a bit louder with the kids about what we were seeing.
