I enjoyed this cover of Lovesong performed by Slipknot's lead singer Corey Taylor. He also does a pretty killer version of Wicked Game that you can find on Spotify.

Doesn't deserve it's own thread, so I'll put this here since pretty much every high school band in the '60s did a cover of The Kingsmen's greatest (and absolutely only) hit: Louie Louie. Some of my pals from that era have been abuzz since the passing a few days ago of Jack Ely, the group's lead singer. The NY Times had an interesting (for those of us who grew up with the song, at least) article about Ely and the making of the song. It was widely believe the song included some really filthy lyrics, but despite innumerable listens, I was never able to figure them out--turns out there weren't any, another hundred hours of my youth wasted...

The group did only one take of the song, intending to use it as a demo, and the production values are horrible (among other faux pas, Ely comes in early at the 1:59 mark or so and then waits for the band to catch up). But with only three-cords, and absolutely no requirement of coherence, this song was the go-to number for every '60s kid with a guitar.

That's sad. As a semi-fan of STP (I still love Tiny Music) I've never really cared much for Weiland. He was never the talent or the brains of that operation (the Deleo brothers seemed to be that role) but he does have a decent voice. I always found it funny that he and Slash hooked up with Velvet Revolver since they are, IMO, the two most overrated guys in each of their respective former bands. Looks like the addictions and demons may have gotten the best of him.

This nearly made my head explode. I haven't been to that many concerts, but one of my all time faves (Ryan) covering a song, I heard at the first concert I ever attended.

My friend was at that show and gave it rave reviews.
