I can agree w/ him on The Insider over American beauty, but only because I didn't like American Beauty all that much. The other two are just laughable though, especially Little Miss Sunshine, which was really about as ho hum as comedies come. 1994: The Shawshank Redemption is a very good movie. Pulp Fiction is one of the greatest movies of all time. Both are a good sight better than Forest Gump.
2001: A Beautiful Mind was definitely the weakest of all the nominees. Gosford Park gets better every time I watch it and I absolutely love Moulin Rouge!
2004: I can't get on board with the critical love for Alexander Payne. Every one of his movies (even the ones I kind of like) just leave me cold. I didn't care for Sideways at all.Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...
None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.
I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

I think the Academy got it right on all of the mentioned films. I'd be OK with Shawshank over Forrest Gump but love both films. Same goes for SPR over Shakespeare.
It is interesting how views and opinions of a film can change over time. There was a time when I thought Fargo superior to The English Patient. But not now and I've seen both films at least 10 times each. Films connect with people in different ways. I don't think there's a right answer.
