    The Eagle

I'm a historical fiction film junkie if there is such a thing. Master and Commander is an all-time masterpiece and I want more of the category.

I'm also a bit of dabbler in British history and classical history...

With that in mind I have two thoughts about The Eagle:

1.) I love the theme and wish more would be done w/ Roman history on the big screen

2.) It's obvious from the trailers that someone is trying lift the Avatar theme of Insanely Brave And Uniquely Athletic And Under-Dressed Indigenous People Pose Pesky Military Problems for Imperial Power.

That has potential to be damn annoying.

We'll see how it plays out.

I saw the poster-- JUST the poster-- and proceeded to tell my friend, in detail, exactly what the movie was about. We then looked it up, and found that I was almost exactly correct.

Same old predictable tripe as ever, I'm afraid.

Yeah pretty sure it's not going to be awesome. I'm going to see it any way as it sounds like the cinematography is sick and I'm a sucker for sweeping bigscreen visuals of the Scottish highlands but....

the second I see a trailer in which dudes painted head to toe in blue make obviously CGI'd leaps over a phalanx of Roman soldiers I start doubting the quality of the direction.

FWIW, I'm reading Schama's History of Britain right now and the native warriors during that era actually did paint themselves blue. He didn't make any mention about leaping prowess, however.

I really liked a movie from last year called Centurion. It has the same historical setting as The Eagle and actually revolves around the same event: the disappearance of the Spanish 9th Legion. The plot concerns a few survivors of an attack by the Picts trying to make it back to Roman controlled territory while being chased by the enemy. Extremely violent and exciting stuff.
Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

If you liked Master and Commander, have you seen the Horatio Hornblower series that A&E did? Those were some excellent movies.
              Not that, sickos.

I think I saw that on DVD - Interesting movie, I'm a sucker for Roman military history.

I may be small, but I'm slow.

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to, "The United States of America ", for an amount of "up to and including my life - it's an honor."

As soon as I saw who the male lead was I knew the movie would stink.

Excellent books, engaging stories, and very well made 'movies'. I loved that series.

A&E turns out some excellent programs.
