I'm in the midst of watching John Adams and am a little over halfway done.

John Adams is one of, if not my favorite book I've read, so I might be unduly harsh here, but the Mini-Series to this point has come across as painfully dull so far. The chemistry between Giamatti and Linney seems severely lacking as well.

Does it get any better? Because I'm not really feeling compelled to finish watching.

Right now I'm at the point where He's lamenting the fact that President Washington is leaving him out of the inner circle.

I just finished it yesterday. While I think it was worth watching, I must say that I was disappointed in the end. The first two episodes were excellent, but it definitely went downhill from there. I think the problem was poor editing. For example, they had a bit where Adams' sons decide to invest some money in a speculative opportunity in NYC without letting daddy know about it. But they never followed up on it. Why bother to start a subplot if you aren't going to finish it? What's the point? They also seemed to spend an inordinate amount of time chronicling Adams' personality faults. That's fine, in balance, but it got tedious after a while.

On the plus side, the Washington inauguration and the Adams inauguration were well done (at the ends of episodes 4 & 5).

I felt the same way when I watched it as it aired on HBO. The series started out strong, but by the end it was frankly kind of boring.

OK, it is time for me to come clean and admit to being an idiot. For some reason I was under the impression that the series consisted of only five episodes. I was at Blockbuster the other day and noticed that there is a third disk with episodes 6&7. So ignore my comments above about unresolved subplots.

I watched episode 6 over the weekend and I thought it was very good. One of the best of the series. The Jefferson/Adams/Hamilton battles during Adams' presidency were fascinating.

I never finished it and took it back to Blockbuster. I just wasn't interested in finishing the rest of it after how dull the earlier episodes were.

Like Rocky, I am a big fan of McCullough's book. My wife and I watched the first episode in this series last night. It's a different animal than the shows we've been watching recently (The Wire, Mad Men).

I'm encouraged by what I saw in the first episode. I liked the drama surrounding the trial of the British soldiers of the Boston Massacre and the way the show portrays the tensions that exist in Massachussets over being unfairly taxed. The tar and feathering scene was brutal to watch. My wife is a 5th grade teacher, and America's founding is part of the curriculum, so she has taken an interest as well.
