Just watched the Christmas Special tonight with the missus.

Yowza. It seems that all those sappy happy endings that I was complaining about were a big setup for the gut punch at the end of the season. Bravo.

So ldc and I just blazed through season 1 and 2 in the last couple weeks. We have the first 2 from season 3 on the DVR, but what is the Christmas special?

It is interesting to contrast her with Mary. The message of the show as between those two so far seems to be that being petty, selfish and cruel only really hurts you in life if you are not pretty. So far anyway.

I think Edith is pretty.

I find it a little too convenient that Matthew Crowley recovered from his spinal injury (hooray) and suddenly came into an enormous sum of money (just in the nick of time) and his fiancee forgave him and managed to write a note about it before she croaked (phew, no need to feel guilty). C'mon writers. Really?!

Otherwise, I love the show.

Seems pretty crazy to kill the show's most popular character. I have no idea what kind of ratings the show pulled in the UK this season, but this move seems to be one that's made to re-generate buzz and usually ends up being a shark jump.

Dan Stevens is moving to NY so they had to kill Crawley. I think it's bad writing to kill him the way they did and when they did. It would have been easy and more lucrative to continue his character on to the next season and kill him in the first or second episode
