Yeah you imperialist bastard. What do you think, decreases in promiscuity would curb the spread of aids? You and your convenient western medical mumbo jumbo.

Thanks for that. However, I think you got offended by an argument I never made.

I would love to see this and I imagine it could be really good. I'll be interested to see what types of missionaries the characters will be. I'm hoping one is the sensitive, soft-spoken, feelings elder, and the other is the over the top, AP-lobbying, I-know-more-about-your-life-than-you-even-though-I'm-20-and-from-a-different-country elder.

They feel they don't need rubbers because of Bush's multibillion dollar program that you and I pay for...

Millions of Africans who had been dying of AIDS are now living with AIDS, thanks to President Bush's program. The U.S. is providing pills to more than two million people with HIV/AIDS, people who could never afford them and who were condemned to die. The medicine not only saves their lives, it permits them to live full lives.

                      [...]

The AIDS rate is inching back up, above six percent, because now that AIDS is no longer a death sentence people are getting more careless about spreading it. Sadly, the solution has become part of the problem.

                      [...]

And disaster is looming: in Africa, a million more people a year will come down with HIV/AIDS.

The U.S. says it simply can't afford caring for any more new patients so, unless other wealthy countries step up, millions are doomed. For now, the U.S. says it will keep treating people already in the program.
It seems the government just made the problem worse.

It seems the problems of AIDS would be greatly reduced if the gospel was lived by everyone, no?

Not to say it is the cure to AIDS.

I'm thinking the play will be about how the missionaries say things like AIDS is a scourge from god for the gay man. I'm sure they'll poke fun at mormon beliefs, how could you not, but I think the true humor is the way missionaries often do it.

Actually sounds like it will be brilliant.

At what point did the objective of the church's missionary program go from saving souls to saving lives? If we wanted to fund a Goodwill program, we wouldn't be sending 19 year old kids to Africa. Instead, we'd call doctors, physiatrists, social workers, etc. on missions and have them do the Goodwill work. Seems like Matt and Trey are missing the mark on their whole plot.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I'm still trying to figure out what this "toolkit" is. When I was a missionary I tried to teach people about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and when I wasn't doing that, I was doing my best to serve the people with whom I was living. I didn't have a toolkit that I was aware of.

I'm having a hard time figuring out how this isn't a good thing. Sure, it doesn't solve all the problems in Africa, but what will or has? Service and a good message seems to be about as effective as anything else a 19 year old punk could do for a struggling people.

Parker and Stone come off as fools with this based on what I've seen.
