  • 2 terrific british tv shows

There are two terrific new british tv series that recently started. The first one airs on BBC, called 'Luther.' It is about a police detective who has a lot of issues in his life...the show is dark and entertaining: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00s8jk0

Mystery Theater is also showing a new Sherlock Holmes series set in today's London. Martin Freeman (from the british tv show 'the Office and he turned down the Bilbo Baggins role in the upcoming movie the Hobbit, so that he could stay on this show). It is extremely entertaining and a terrific twist on the old standby Sherlock lore. Check it out: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/sherlock/index.html

that's Masterpiece Myster theatre and how could you watch it after what they did to Juan Williams?!?!?

Actually, the new Sherlock series is very good. Besides, when Sherlock Holmes is a less improbable name than the name of the lead actor (Benedict Cumberpatch) it must be good, right?
    PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Also, Footballers' Wives is pretty hawt!

Last week I was at my BiL's apartment. The MiL was there and causes me stress and grief beyond all measure (hyperbole but still...) He had some episodes of a British sitcom called "The IT crowd." It was ridiculously stupid but I laughed harder than I have in a while. Most likely a result of being an escape and distraction from the MiL. But I have watched a few more episodes online recently and I've enjoyed it.

Are you sure he turned down that role? I've just recently read the announcement that he is in fact set to be Bilbo. His IMDB and Wikipedia pages confirm.

I enjoyed the first episode of Sherlock. It was titled, A Study in Pink, which is an allusion to the original, A Study in Scarlet. The new version is an interesting take on the first half of the original, but completely forgoes the second half, in which the murderer's motive is explained. In the book, the motive is revenge for some evil perpetrated by MORMONS. The whole second half of the book takes place in the US, and was written as if Conan Doyle learned everything he knew about Mormons from an anti-Mormon pamphlet, and then decided to make that the murder's back story. So on television, the murder's motive is pretty feeble, and in the book, the motive is rooted in an error-filled anti-Mormon history.

I like the new Watson. Little Robin thinks Sherlock is a huge horse's ass, but likes to hate him.

Dead Set, which is showing on IFC this week, also looks awesome.

I've like BBC's redoing of Law and Order as well.

I may be small, but I'm slow.

One of the best British TV shows ever was Red Dwarf. If you got British humor, that show would have you laughing nonstop.
                  Not that, sickos.

I have to say, I am really digging 'Luther.' The cinemotography is terrific and the storytelling is interesting. Dark and somewhat disturbing, a definite thumbs up so far.

Sherlock's first episode was absolutely fabulous. The next couple have both been very solid. 3 episodes for the entire first season. Stupid brits. Hopefully, they will pick up with season 2 and introduce a bunch more episodes.

Sherlock will have 3 more episodes and Luther will have 2, 2 hour episodes instead of a new 6 episode series.

I will say - few shows are like 'Luther.' It is available thru Amazon online if you are wanting to pay for it. Now sure when it will be out on video.

That show does not pull any punches. At all. Terrific episode this past Sunday, the season 1 finale is this coming Sunday. He is flawed, the anticipation of what happens next is terrific and the storylines are interesting. A very well done first year.

I have been recording them, but have yet to watch any. May have to put it closer to the top of the list, thanks.
