  • "Have we heard the last (truly memorable) word from Hollywood?"

Here's an interesting article in the NY Times about the lack of good one-liners in movies over the past decade +. Several of our beloved posters and/or their avatars get pub in the article.

I can't think of a lot of good, recent one-liners, but I don't really see that many movies.

Hey, that's a good article, thanks for posting. Mostly I just like all the memories it brings up of great movie lines. While there may be a dearth of good one-liners in recent cinema (and God help him, James Cameron really, really tries,) great screenwriting is definitely alive and well. I've been quoting lines from The Social Network ever since I saw it earlier this week:

    A couple favorites:

"If you guys were the inventors of Facebook, you'd have invented Facebook."

"You're going to go through life thinking that girls don't like you because you're a nerd. And I want you to know, from the bottom of my heart, that that won't be true. It'll be because you're an asshole."
Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.
