I actually didn't see it at all. In a tribute to pelagius and to keep my wife happy, all I saw last night was the second episode of the masterpiece classic prodcution of Sense and Senisbility where, once again,a bunch of English people in old-fahsioned clothes refused to tell each other how they really feel until, when all hope is seemingly lost, some remarkable tunr of events leads to happiness for the heroine and despair for the unruly cads that had mistreated her (or her family) in the beginning.
    Boo on the S&S.

I tivo'd the grammys and waited until about 10:30, then fast forward through all the talking. If you decontruct the grammys, you are looking at about 60 minutes of performances and almost twice that of talking and commercials. I was glad I did it.

Robert Plant is old. really old. And Kanye wins last night for his blatant Sammy David Jr job he did on his fro. It was classic.

Another disappointing moment.....Neil D coming out and doing Sweet Caroline. Ruined one of the great sing-along anthems by speaking the lyrics instead of singing them. I know he has been battling issues with his pipes lately and even had to cancel a show or two because of it. Might be time for him to take a break until he can get back on track.

Back on topic. Thom, Gwyneth and 15 Step come full circle. Such a strange connection they share.

but it was Radiohead’s performance of 15 Step that stole the thunder from Lil’ Wayne and Coldplay in a night full of attempted “unforgettable” performances. To be honest, Radiohead did more than steal the show; they made U2 look like out of touch old men and all the “special guest collaborations” look like empty hype magnets by comparison- which a good many of them were (Stevie Wonder and the Jonas Bros? My head hurts). Don’t get me wrong, the Timberlake/T.I. song was badass, and the Kanye/Jay-Z/Lil’ Wayne/T.I./M.I.A. track Swagga Like Us was absolutely nuts- but there was a spastic, majestic energy to Radiohead’s 15 Step that eclipsed every other performance last night. Watching Thom Yorke’s shaggy, one-eyed electrocution dance as the USC Marching Band backed Johnny Greenwood was more than entertaining- it was inspiring. Theirs was the only performance that made me want to turn off my TV and make music afterward- and that’s perhaps the best compliment I can bestow on an artist.
Bringing the marching band on for this song, just makes Radiohead seem even bigger rock stars than they already are, while still maintaining their creative edge.
And you gotta love this quote from Jonny to an LA Times reporter:

"Everything I know about pop culture I know from 'The Simpsons,' and they say the Grammys aren't very good."

It is nice to see USC get its appropriate recognition in all of this.

That article is spot on about some weird collaborations...that Jonas Bros number was awful.

Also, not sure if we need to see much more of Chris Martin on piano and Jay Z rapping about "Chris M"

One of Kanye’s stories was about last Sunday’s Grammy Awards, where he got snubbed by Radiohead singer Thom Yorke. Kanye said he approached Thom Yorke at the show, saying, “Hi, my name is Kanye. I’m a musician. I’m a fan of yours,” and Yorke just walked away without replying. The incident certainly didn’t stop Kanye West from being a big Radiohead fan though: This Wednesday, he posted a video of Radiohead’s Grammy performance with the USC Marching Band on his blog, with the caption, “OOOOOH MR YORKE…. YOU ARE VERY MUCH THE END ALL BE ALL… AMAZING.”

I wondered how long it was going to be until stories like this started surfacing, since Thom pulls this crap at every awards show.

I really wish he'd stop acting like a dick when other musicians want to meet him. For Kanye's part, I give him credit for still gushing about Radiohead when he posted a clip to their Grammy performance on his blog.

I'm driving across Idaho (other than the speed limit, there isn't much appeal to this state) listening to my RH catalog. My personal uninformed opinion...

OK Computer is properly rated, it is brilliant. The Bends is underrated, I think it's as good, if not better than Ok. I've listened to Kid A probably between 25-50 times over the years and keep coming to the same conclusion, it overrated - it always seems like the type if stuff Ross Gellar's techno band would have covered. I like King of Limbs bit need a few more spins to decide where it ranks, probably behind In Rainbows and ahead of Pablo and Hail to the Thief.
