    Who is your favorite movie vampire?

    This article about non-traditional movie vampires got me thinking about vampire movies I have seen. (I haven't seen most of the ones listed in the article. After my teen years vampire movies lost their appeal for me, but I've watched a few.)

    Though they have been portrayed in world folklore as inhuman creatures, Hollywood seems to prefer to depict vampires on the well-groomed side. A long list of aesthetically appealing performers, from Bela Lugosi to Gary Oldman and Robert Pattinson (not to mention Ingrid Pitt, Soledad Miranda and Anne Parillaud)* have cemented the vampire as a sepulchral matinee idol, burdened equally by good looks and an unquenchable thirst for blood.

    (* The exception to this rule was Christopher Lee, whose portrayal of the Count for Hammer Films embraced both the seductive and monstrous sides of the cinematic vampire).
    Ah, Christopher Lee. His Dracula scared me to death when I was 11 years old. He played the part as a truly malevolent, evil, frightening creature. I hardly slept the night after I saw that Hammer production on 16mm film back in about 1966 at a Scout fund-raiser (shown in the ward cultural hall, no less - could that even happen now?). When I think of a scary Dracula I think of Christopher Lee in those movies.

    I am really intriugued about "Let Me In," also a Hammer Films production, which is kind of interesting. I guess it's the same Hammer, but those Lee movies were made a long time ago. I'm not sure I will see it, though. The trailer is cetainly well-done:

                      What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

                                              I had to do some googling, but this is Jonathon Frid who played Barnabas Collins in House of Dark Shadows. I've never seen the tv show, but did see the movie which I remember being a decent vampire film. I saw the movie with the rest of the kids at Eastmont Jr. High on Halloween.

                                              Anyone else ever see the movie? Or the tv show?
