I went through a period of serious confusion for about 15 minutes this morning. I saw that Tony Curtis had died, and I was positive that he had died a few days ago. I finally figured out that I was thinking of Eddie Fisher. They both had actress daughters whose mothers were also actresses, whom they also both left. For someone who follows celebrities as much as I do, that was enough to conflate the two of them.Comment

Tony Curtis was rad. The Defiant Ones, Some Like it Hot, Sporaticus, cult classics like The Manitou and Bad News Bears....the guy could play it straight, he could be the funny guy, he could be the tough guy.
My favorite Tony Curtis role is a remnant of my childhood.....a Blake Edwards movie called "The Great Race." He co-starred with Natalie Wood (rowwwrrr!) as The Great Leslie, a roaring 20s stuntman extraordinaire that embarks on a transcontinental automobile race from New York to Paris. Hijinks ensue along the way. Jack Lemmon puts in a fantastic turn as the film's antagonist, Professor Fate. If any of you wish to enjoy a great Blake Edwards classic, rent The Great Race.
