    On Broadway!

    I couldn't find a thread that really was about plays and musicals. And since I have seen a bunch of them, and have tickets for the season in LA, this is where I will give updates.

    Last night I happened to be in NYC so my daughter and I went to see The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. I knew nothing going on other than it was supposed to be funny. It was very funny. As a musical is was ok in terms of , but overall it was great. I highly recommend it. Jon Cryer, from Two and Half Men, as the vice principal was good. They have people from the audience patriciate in the bee and that was so fun, especially when the 12 year old kid got the super obscure word right when he as supposed to get out.

    The best performance was by Justin Cooley as Leaf. Really incredible. He was nominated for a Tony for another role few years ago. He is great.

      We have season tickets to Broadway at the Eccles.

      We lucked out a few years back and fell into some amazing seats. Orchestra, 10th row, next to the aisle in the middle. We will never let those babies go.

          Love Broadway and most musical theater! We usually hit a couple of shows per year in San Francisco. Last summer we caught Mrs. Doubtfire at the Orpheum. Fantastic show! And with it being set in SF made it all the better.

          We also recently saw Back to the Future down there. Fun show, but not so much for the music, which was just ok, imo. The special effects were excellent. Would still recommend.

              Saw both last year. Had low expectations for Mrs. Doubtfire (probably my dislike of Robin Williams) but it was great.

                          Not a big broadway fan. We’ve seen Matilda and Wicked. They were great productions and the time went pleasantly, but I wouldn’t travel just to see them.

                          One of my kids who is on my case about not remembering every. little. detail about everything that has happened in the past couldn’t believe her ears when I asked her if the animals plot line in the movie Wicked was an addition. What can I say? The play just didn’t move me.

                              That is awesome. Operation Mincemeat is hitting SLC this year. I cannot recommend this show enough.

                              We saw it last year in NYC. This was with the original London cast that won the Olivier for best show. It is so funny as well as had the single best song I have ever heard performed. There was stunned silence at the end of the song and then just an eruption of applause. I thought there was going to a standing ovation mid show. Jak Malone won the Tony (duplicating his Olivier win) last year for the same part and he was brilliant.

                                      We pick up a show or two when we travel to London. We should look at doing that here.

                                          I know it's not real Broadway but my daughter played the lead in Hadestown in a local production this summer and it was a top 3 proudest moments of my life situation. High quality production with live band and I was in tears several times just thinking "I can't believe that's my daughter."

                                              That is amazing. That is a tough show. I saw that on Broadway 3 years ago. Cool production.

                                              My daughter as a senior in HS was Elle Woods in Legally Blonde. That was super fun to see as well.
