Never listened to it. Something about Ed Westick and Chase Crawford dancing together at their concert just scared me.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Of Montreal was just plain weird when I saw them. They played with Shiny Toy Guns and Kevin Barnes came out in a tutu.

Still the most disgusting thing I have ever seen was someone eat a hotdog out of the butt of the drummer for Goldfinger.

      Shows can be very interesting.

And Ratatat was awesome live. I love them. Hip hop fans need to check out their remixes. They have some sick remix albums. They have also done some others of Bjork and The Knife.

Apparently these peeps are playing Chop Suey (about a five minute walk from my apartment) on the 12th and tickets are $10. Maybe I'll go over and check them and hope I don't get shot. Though I believe shootings at that venue are confined to hip-hop and not pop shows.

An update for any fellow Bird and the Bee fans out there. Quite a bit going on.

First and most interesting, the band just dropped its new album....a remake of Hall and Oates greatest hits done in electronic minimalist. Very entertaining concept. When asked why they did it in lieu of full instrumentation, they responded by explaining that they simply felt like singing Hall and Oates songs. Kind of punk. A few samples:

          Maneater, featuring Shirley Manson

          Kiss on my list

          Rich Girl

Also, many of you have probably unknowingly heard TBATB on TV....they did a cover of Herman's Hermit's "Into Something Good" which has been picked up by Chase Bank in their latest ad campaign

Finally, a Bird and the Bee epiphany. For the past half year or so, I have heard stuff here and there from a local indie girl group called The Living Sisters. They have a very stylized sound, much like TBATB. The Living Sisters are a sort of low-fi 50s pop trio and they just released their debut album a week or so ago. Lo and behold, I see them on Carson Daly the other night and whom do I see as one of the trio? Inara George from TBATB. No wonder I liked them.

if you like TBATB, check out The Living Sisters. Here is their myspace pace. Their first dingle is "Double Knots" and it is low-fi catchiness. Reminds me of the first time I heard Tigermilk...very under-produced.

Here is a link to a in-store version of Double Knots, done at space 15 twenty, a local concept store up in LA. You can get a sense for their 50s sensibilities although the sound quality on this isn't great. the myspace page quality is better.

The Living Sisters are doing a set of shows with "She and Him," a cool alt-country band that is on the ups and playing this week in LA. Here is a sample.

Apologies for all the links. I am going into excitement overload. 9 days until Coachella.

I listened to that Hall & Oates covers album last weekend. Apparently they were going to call it "Guiltless Pleasures," but they thought there was something of a derisive undertone to that and changed it.
