Yikes. Kara and Ellen were fired, and they have hired J-lo and Steven Tyler going back to the old format of 3 judges. They will join Randy Jackson.

The show jumped the shark about 3 seasons ago and its only getting worse.

I have never really watched AI except for a few seasons of the final few episodes. But Steven Tyler could actually be pretty good, and I would sure rather watch J-Lo than Ellen. Seems like an upgrade to me.

I'm not sure the show can be saved, but this is a smart move. The problem with the show has always been that it has no edge. Steven Tyler is an upgrade, but I would have gone with a Brittish Rock star. Someone like Nigel Tufnel.

Bad move. I'm not a huge fan, but my wife is, so I'll sit and watch here and there. Apparently, I'm in the minority here, but Kara was the best judge on there--good musical background, good ear, and good sense of "star" quality. Simon was entertaining, but comes in a close second judge-wise because of his tendency to pick favorites (or people to hammer on). I like Randy's focus on pitch--I can forgive a lot of vocalist problems if they have a good ear--but he consistently calls performances "pitchy" that aren't and misses many that are. J-Lo is NOT an upgrade. The problem with J-Lo is that like Paula, studio remixing has apparently convinced her that she actually has some musical talent. J-Lo is nice to look at, but that's about as much as attention as I'll pay to her. Steven Tyler is sort of a wild card. Seems to me he'd make a great guest judge, but does he really have a whole season's worth of things to say? I'm skeptical. Ellen, as funny as I think she is off of this show, is terrible on it, so that's a good move.
