The one coming out in 2009 looks pretty good.
I really liked Insurrection. I think much of the criticism stems from it being a "small peas" movie. It's basically a regular old episode stretched to full length and given a huge budget. It's very well done for what it is; one of my favorites in fact. It is, however, inconsequential, which is probably not a great idea for a movie. The next and ultimate movie in the series was very consequential, but also far inferior to its predecessor.

That having been said, none of the Star Trek movies are among my favorite sci-fi films despite my love for all l things Trek. There are a whole bunch of individual episodes or two-parters that I consider superior to the best of the movies.

As for my favorites, I'll agree on Contact and Gattaca, and would add the terminator and alien movies.

      Yeah. That movie sucked.

I hate sci-fi. Of all genres it's my least favorite.

I am probably not helping your cause here but I LOVE THAT MOVIE TOO! I think it is a lot better than what people have made of it. I could give a crap about the romance part but I think it raises timeless questions that no one really has answers to about God and science. Whenever that movie is on t.v. I watch it.

You know how President Hinckley said he doesn't worry about those who pray? The same can be said for men who are self-aware enough to know when there's a life to be lived outside of the world of video games. - Anonymous

I love it for similar reasons. Empiricism meets faith. Excellent movie in terms of thought-provoking quotient, IMO.

Plus, where else are you gonna see a dude from Panguitch blow up billions of dollars of equipment AND Matthew McConaughey take off his shirt?

                                My apologies, PAC.
