I'll third or fourth The Lives of Others. Excellent film.

Anybody seen El Norte? I remember watching it in HS in Spanish III. Hay las ratas! Pretty good depiction of people desperate to get to El Norte. Also depicts the discrimination of los indios in Mexico.

I actually sat and talked with one of the screenwriters, Arturo Arias (imdb doesn't list him, but it's his baby), about the film.....he said that he's pleased that it found such a wide secondary audience among high school Spanish classes, because it allows suburban white kids to see a slice of life that many of them don't know exists. He was at Tulane for a semester as a writer-in-residence and is a really classy guy.

I saw El Norte when I was a kid. That rat scene freaked me out.

I decided then and there that I would only make fun of illegals once I knew that their entire families had made it across the border safely.

Serving a Spanish speaking mission stateside opened my eyes up to even more than what El Norte depicted. El Norte was a great film.

Re-read the instructions or I won't allow you to makeup the assignment, freshman.

I think I'm going to have to take this up with the board's disciplinary council.

I have personal knowledge of at least one other instance where a poster didn't follow your so called "instructions" without so much as a mention. It's obvious you have a personal agenda in singling me out and that will not stand.

I'll have your chair for this professor

Alright then I'll take every class you offer, sit down in front and monopolize the discussion with irrelevant stories of my experiences in the real world. I'll also drop by every time you're holding office hours and take up all of your time monologuing about my personal life.
