    Batman 3: Summer 2012

Looks like the summer of 2012 will be a busy one at the box office with the announcement of Batman 3. Star Trek 2, The Avengers, Battleship, and quite possibly another Spider-Man are all slated for this timeframe.

No plot or production dates have been released, but the movie will head to theatres on July 20, 2012.

"They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Ah, my favorite time--the time between the movie's announcement and any concrete information regarding its production where we are all free to speculate wildly and without consequence! So here we go:

    Title: DARK KNIGHT TRIUMPHANT
Villains: Aaron Eckhart returns as Two-Face. Johnny Depp as the Red Hood. Keira Knightley as Catwoman.
Plot: Two-Face is alive and continues to consolidate his criminal power in Gotham. But a potentially disastrous gang war escalates with the villainous Red Hood and an underground Batman tries to avoid the authorities while still maintaining the peace. Meanwhile, a mysterious masked burglar is causing trouble for the Dark Knight. With sexy results!
Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

Haha, interesting. I would think that the Riddler would be a slam dunk!

I agree that he's the obvious choice, which is why I think they'll take a different route. Hey, as long as Christopher Nolan is in charge, I'm in.

Keira Knightley couldn't fill out a Catwoman suit sexily enough.

I'd rather see them go in a different direction too. Not the same old characters again..

I like the Red Hood idea...

2011 is also busy. Marvel is basically controlling the output of the movies featuring their characters (except for Spider Man), they started with Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk in 2008. Marvel is releasing both Thor and Captain America in 2011. So Iron Man 2 in 2010, Thor and Captain America in 2011- and all of those characters along with the Hulk will be in the Avengers in 2012. Kenneth Branaugh is directing Thor and that will be interesting. His spin on Frankenstein in the 90s wasn't totally horrible and I think he could do a good job.

The Green Lantern is also going to come out in 2011. Thor, Captain America and the Green Lantern will make for a busy 2011 for comic book movies. BTW, I'm surprised at how little is coming out in the summer of 2010.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Marvel also doesn't have X-MEN so they can't have Spidey or Wolverine cross over into their other movies unless they work some kind of miraculous deal.

I sincerely hope GREEN LANTERN is done right so DC can get cracking with some of their other big properties.

I remember when I was a kid, there were a string of super hero movies that were just abso-funking-lutely terrible. Many featured Spider Man. Every one of them had the visual look of the A-Team, but with out-of-shape dudes in bad spandex costumes. There would be a sequence of bad cut scenes featuring Spiderman extending his hand with the spinneret hand gesture, then a white rope flying through the air like silly string, then something that looked like a cargo net dropping on the bad guy.... just awful.

Even the old SPIDER-MAN TV movies weren't as bad as this:

Marvel comic book characters really didn't hit the motherload until Spider Man. The X-Men films have done okay, but Bryan Singer, IMO, is a bit overrated as a director. Sam Raimi did an amazing job with the first two Spider Man films but fell short with the third film. After the release of Spider Man 2, Marvel had to be thinking "hey, we could make some serious cash if we kept this in-house and did things our way." No more Ang Lee, no more Bryan Singer. Iron Man was a huge success and probably the most enjoyable comic book movie ever (though not the best, that would be the Dark Knight). The Hulk reboot was a big improvement over the Ang Lee version, but it had more of a X-Men-ish box office draw.

BTW, it's too bad they let the Fantastic Four and Daredevil franchises get away.

To be honest, I don't think they were in a financially viable place to make their own movies up until the past few years. The franchise that really started off the Marvel trend was actually BLADE. It was proof that a third-tier comic property could actually have wide appeal and be extremely profitable. That was before X-MEN launched them into blockbuster territory.

But yes, it's true, the past ten years are also littered with wasted opportunities. Besides the ones you mentioned there is the terrible GHOST RIDER, BLADE: TRINITY and the horrendous FANTASTIC FOUR flicks. Those last ones are in definite need of a reboot.

FYI: Smallville just had an episode that included "The Justice Society of America". It had Hawkman, Green Lantern, Star-Spangled Kid, Sandman, Dr. Fate etc.
