  • The Killing

Starting the official thread now as it looks like this will end up AMC's newest series.

The show is set and takes place in Seattle (which is enough to get me to watch, even though they'll film in Vancouver), and is based on an acclaimed Dutch TV series involving the murder of a young girl. The story then follows the girls family, the police, and the suspects.

Not the most original premise, but sounds Wire-esque in that it will attempt to offer a critical analysis of the local police and political scene as they attempt handle a murder investigation. And of course the other two AMC shows are probably the two most acclaimed shows on television right now, so I'm assuming the quality here is going to be very high and they'll do something unique with the idea.

Anyway, the pilot doesn't even begin filming until next month, so this thread may need a bump in a few months. It's being directed by Patty Jenkins, who did Monster and episodes of Entourage and Arrested Development.

Anyone catch the trailer during tonight's Walking Dead finale? Wasn't very long, but definitely got me excited again. The series is set to premiere in March.

Walking Dead has commercials? Are those the things that I fast forward through? Bummer, you wouldn't happen to have a link for that trailer, would you?
Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

I looked for one last night but couldn't find it. I'll search around again and see if anything shows up.

          [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4QfjHYZNLI"]YouTube - AMC's new series - THE KILLING trailer[/nomedia]

That's the only one I can find, but it's just a commercial for the channel and briefly mentions The Killing with a few short screenshots. The trailer last night was just for The Killing and had some cool shots of Seattle.

I saw it, I am interested enough to catch the premier and see if it hooks me. AMC is certainly building a rep that lends itself to giving their new series a chance.

There's a four minute trailer in that article -- some beautiful shots of our little city. The show seems to bear more than a little resemblance to Twin Peaks (which I'm actually watching again right now).

How long can that series last? If its only about that one girl, their either going to find the killer in one season, or people are going to get bored as they try to stretch it out over multiple seasons. I mean, right?

I think that more or less happened with Twin Peaks, so it will be interesting to see what they do. Despite it's similarity to TW, it's based on a Danish series, and I think that version is on its 3rd season now. And, since its AMC, they'll only be doing 13 episodes a season, so it's not like they have to fill 20 hours worth of TV in a seaosn.

I also think it's also set up the way Breaking Bad is, where there's almost no lapse in time between episodes - I recall reading that each episode will be one day in the investigation. When I read the premise to Breaking Bad, I thought they'd never be able to keep up interest in that, and they've done well with it so far.

Who knows. Could flame out quick.

It looks interesting, and certainly any new AMC show deserves a look at this point, despite Rubicon. I just hope it isn't incredibly slow.

Did I see right that the rich kid was boning the wife of the missing girl? Or was that just some other mom lady?

I think it's going to be slow. The producer described it as one of those "slow burn" types. To me the ultimate slow burn is The Wire, so I guess that term can't be all bad.

Yeah, I think that was the dude's wife.
