If I wasn't aware of your germaphobe tendencies I would let you listen to my 425s on the 26th. I agree with the above. I've tried a lot of different headphones. Shure are by far the best combo of sound and comfort. I did learn about a year ago, they don't withstand a 7YO with scissors who ,"wants a little black string" very well though.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostThanks to Shaka and to surface for the advice. I'm ordering some Shure buds today, unless I can just drive somewhere and get them.

So I went to Guitar Center yesterday on the way home from work and am now the owner of some Shure SE115 earbuds.
In short, these are better than the apple earbuds. They don't hurt my ears. In fact, they feel quite comfortable.
I tried the foam attachment and the rubber attachment, not realizing how sexual that sounded until just now.
Anyhow, they feel great, but not sure Im wearing them correctly. Do you rock them with wires up and around the ear or do you rock them with wires hanging down low, wobbling to and fro?
Also, how far into the ear do you jam those suckers? One thing that I was found underwhelming was the sound, which I knew must be user error. So I tried pushing them in a little further and the sound was better, but it felt weird jamming the earbud. Since I never wear earbuds, maybe I just dont know how they are supposed to feel.
Any advice would be appreciated.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Lol. They're great! Except for the sound.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostSo I went to Guitar Center yesterday on the way home from work and am now the owner of some Shure SE115 earbuds.

Mine get pushed in a fair bit. You may also want to adjust the pad sizes. Basically I push them in far enough so that the ear canal is sealed if that makes sense. These aren't meant to sit in your ear like iBuds. The Shure's I have all tried and tested, when fitted properly isolate sound really well. To the point that they seem like noise canceling. If this isn't the case then you're wearing them wrong or need to swap pads for perhaps larger ones.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostSo I went to Guitar Center yesterday on the way home from work and am now the owner of some Shure SE115 earbuds.

My Shure's are about 5-6 years old now and still going strong. They're e3c's and I never had issues with sound. As to wearing them over the ear. Sometimes I do. Sometimes I don't. Because they're angled and labeled for a the left and right ear, if I don't wear them over the ear like they say I just put the left in my right ear and right in my left ear."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

This is what I found. If they were "inside" the ear canal, as opposed to simply sitting in the ear like the apple earbuds, the sound was great. I just didnt know if that was normal to put the earbud into the canal like that. Sounds like it is normal. You are correct, it does provide a noise cancellation effect.Originally posted by Surfah View PostMine get pushed in a fair bit. You may also want to adjust the pad sizes. Would these Shure buds stay in while running? I'm having this problem with my earbuds, and i've tried a few different sets now.Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

I burn through earbuds that I use for running like they're nothing. They invariably get covered in sweat and start shorting out or whatever. I wouldn't spend the money to get nice ones because I'd ruin them fast.Originally posted by Donuthole View PostWould these Shure buds stay in while running? I preferred the feel of the foam over the silicon (sorry, goatnapper'96) so that is what I'm currently rocking. Also, I switched to the smallest foam because it freaked me out putting it in my ear canal, not knowing whether it were safe. Now that I know that some people from a message board jam their earbuds all the way into their canals, I have done the same. The sound is great and it is also nice and quiet.Originally posted by Shaka View PostAre you using the foam or silicon buds? If you are using foam roll it between your fingers until it is compressed and the jam it in your ear canal. The foam will expand in your ear and seal out the world.

They are designed to get jammed up your ear canal. The other thing is that you can buy spare buds for them. In fact I think Performance Audio in Salt Lake has the spares.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostI preferred the feel of the foam over the silicon (sorry, goatnapper'96) so that is what I'm currently rocking. I wear them over the top of the ears.
There is a great discussion here on regular headphones. I'm really loving my Audio Technica ATH-M50s.Last edited by Shaka; 01-14-2011, 04:21 PM.
