    The Pacific

The much-anticipated HBO/Tom Hanks/Spielberg miniseries on WWII in the Pacific theater starts this Sunday:

    http://www.hbo.com/the-pacific/index.html

I can't decide whether to order HBO or wait for the series to come out on Bluray. I will mostly likely go with the first option as I doubt I could wait.

Interesting article about Tom Hanks in Time:

Breaking news and analysis from time.com. Politics, world news, photos, video, tech reviews, health, science, and entertainment news.

Very much looking forward to this.

I agree. I only get HBO for Curb, but I ordered HBO today for The Pacific.

The past week or so I've been watching WWII in HD to get prepped. I'm excited.

I wasn't too impressed with that series.

You should check out the American Experience episode called Victory in the Pacific:

Watch full films from TV's most-watched history series.

Outstanding. It was a much different war than the one fought in Europe.

The first viewing of the series didn't do much, but for some reason, the second time through did.

I'll have to check it out. Thanks. American Experience cranks out quality stuff.

Can you just turn HBO on and off when you want? I would be interested in ordering it for certain series, but I don't want a whole year's worth.

That Tom Hanks article was interesting. I can't wait for 2013 to see what he does with the Bugliosi book on the JFK assassination.

They bill you on a monthly basis - at least Directv does.

What do you pay a month? $10?

Yes, Comcast charges monthly and I just signed up for a 6-month promotion paying $10 a month. I can cancel in 1 month or in 6 months though with no penalty. If it goes past 6 months, the price jumps to $20 a month unless I cancel or re-negotiate with them.

With DIRECTV I can turn it on and off via the web using my online account. And I get refunded for partial unused months.

$14.99/ month. But that same page shows that Playboy TV is only $12.99 permonth.

And realistically, which how many times can you re-watch the Pacific? On the other hand...

You might, if you start getting bored. I mean, you paid for a whole month.
