    The Help

    I just finished [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Help-Kathryn-Stockett/dp/0399155341#noop"]Amazon.com: The Help (9780399155345): Kathryn Stockett: Books@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41%2B44E9lV8L.@@AMEPARAM@@41%2B44E9lV8L[/ame] by Kathryn Stockett. I had a hard time putting it down. It's on the NYT bestsellers list for a reason, I guess.

    Stockett is a Mississippi-native and the book is set in Jackson in the early sixties. It deals with race relations between the black maids and the white families they served. I especially found it interesting as it mentions places close to home.

    I want danimal to read it, but he thinks it's a chick book. If you've read it and liked it, please speak up.
    What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

              You need to talk to SHW, who also just finished it. I will let her know. FTR, she thinks it is a chick book in the same way that Jane Austen wrote chick books.
