Sweet. ^^ Maybe I can sneak into a screening this weekend.

It's playing once more in Park City on Thursday and once more in Salt Lake on Saturday.

MG, it's funny that you would cite that specific review from Drew McWeeny. That's the exact one I looked at before buying tickets. I stopped halfway through the second paragraph and thought "This sounds weird enough to be interesting." Reading it in full now, I can see that we had much the same reaction.

Escape from Tomorrow looks fascinating.

I definitely will see Linsanity eventually, too. Pretty great that they were lucky enough to be documenting everything going on with Jeremy Lin before and during the time that he blew up.

Pretty epic weekend at Sundance. Hit lots of parties and lots of movies. Here's my two bits on each of the films i took in:

Sweet Water:

Violent and profane Western movie starring Ed Harris and January Jones. It was certainly entertaining minus some annoying overt and misguided jabs at Mormonism. Netflix special.

C.O.G.

Film adaptation of the semi-autobiographical essay of the same title by humorist David Sedaris. Very entertaining with some fantastic acting and character work by Denis O'Hare in particular.

The Inevitable Failure of Mister & Pete

Wow. This was the highlight of the festival for me. This is going to get picked up and win awards. Great acting by Jennifer Hudson and a pair of child actors. Two neglected kids make their way through their summer in the projects. Hard to describe, but it was amazing.

Blood Brother

Very moving and inspirational documentary about a photographer who falls in love with India and dedicates his life to caring for AIDS and HIV children.

Two Mothers

A ridiculous movie starring Naomi Watts about ... well, it's basically the film adaptation of "Mother Lover." So dumb.

In a World

Hilarious film about the world of voiceover. Lots of awesome actors including Demitri Martin and Ron Swanson. A complete joy to watch.

I'll follow Commando's lead on this one. I mentioned the bizarre, surreal Escape From Tomorrow earlier and it looks like the only movie I have in common with Commando is In A World... which I just thought was great. Lake Bell is such a likeable lead and every performance and bit of dialogue was spot-on and hilarious. (Also, I got my picture taken with Lake Bell and I'm trying to convince my wife that it doesn't mean anything if I change my Facebook profile to that pic. We're just friends.)

The rest:

Battle for AmFAR & Fall to Grace
These were part of the Doc Shorts program and were both very interesting. The first charted the creation of the first organization dedicated to AIDS research in the 80s and the second chronicled the post-political life of New Jersey governor Tim McGreevey, who came out as gay and resigned his post on live television 10 years ago. He's gone on to do work in women's prisons helping convicts turn their lives around.

The Spectacular Now
Excellently acted drama about an underachieving, life-of-the-party (and maybe budding alcoholic) teen played by Miles Teller and the shy girl he befriends (Shailene Woodley from The Descendants.) Both the leads where phenomenal and it was surprisingly emotional.

Upstream Color
Best thing I saw at the festival. It's a head trip so I won't try to explain the plot. Let's just say that it's Shane Carruth's follow-up to Primer and he is growing as a filmmaker by leaps and bounds.

S-VHS
Super gory (and not that great) horror movie anthology. I am sick to death of zombie tales (which most of these were) but I'll give props to the most clever of them: Guy goes mountain-biking wearing his GoPro camera and is attacked by zombies, resulting in the first first-person zombie tale. Hilarious.

Virtually Heroes
I was supposed to see the documentary Kink but I went to the wrong theater and didn't know it until they introduced the movie. It was midnight. The movie sucked. I fell asleep and then cut out early. Waste of time.

Afternoon Delight
Decent dramedy with excellent performance by Kathryn Hahn as a bored housewife. A bit angsty for my tastes, but Juno Temple is hot, so there's that.

All in all, a good festival this year. Didn't see as many documentaries as I would have liked but I enjoyed most of what I did see. Anybody else attend?

Saw Linsanity tonight in a one time showing at the Gateway. Really enjoyed it. Was fun seeing it in a theater with a crowd that was 75% Asian -- everybody was really into it.

What's the Sundance Buzz? I'm going to see Weiner Dog tonight and Gleason on Friday. What else should I see?

I'm most excited to see Love & Friendship -- adaptation of Jane Austen's novel Lady Susan (which I had never heard of) by Whit Stillman and starring Kate Beckinsale and Chloë Sevigny. Getting great reviews so far.

I saw little men and other people. Both of which were worth seeing but nothing amazing

Just got back from Gleason. Loved it. It's a documentary about Steve Gleason, the former Saints player who was diagnosed with ALS a few years after he retired. Very well done.
