Agreed. We saw this Saturday night -- theater was totally full and the crowd was really into it. It's been a long time since I saw a comedy in a theater.

Kristen Wiig is pretty hit and miss on SNL but was pretty good in this. The plus-sized bridesmaid was hilarious.

SNL last night with Justin Timberlake and Gaga was pretty good too.

You're shocked that so few on a sports message board have seen a chick flick? Really?

It's not really that much of a chick flick, despite the title -- it's just a raunchy comedy. It reminded me of The Hangover more than anything else I have seen in the past few years.

It's not a chick flick in the traditional sense, but yes, I am shocked as I already stated. This board has some very avid moviegoers, and this type of movie (lots of critical acclaim and buzz) is the type that many are apt to see, especially at a time of year when there's not a whole heck of lot out there in terms of quality. But it seems as if it's starting to catch on around here.

I do find it curious that you label it a "chick flick" and would guess that's probably a result of the fact that there's not a lot of female-driven comedies out there. We went to the movie with some friends and on the way home talked about the fact that there's just not a whole lot of great comedies you can point to where almost every single significant player in the ensemble is female. There are a handful, but they are greatly outnumbered by those featuring men. It has "chicks," so I suppose it is a "chick flick" in that sense, but to the extent that most think about that term, it's no more a chick flick than some like Wedding Crashers or I Love You, Man.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I called it a chick flick because I heard the movie critic who is a perpetual guest on the Doug Wight Show on KSL call it a chick flick. And more to the point, it's a movie my wife wants to see.

I've never seen Wedding Crashers or I Love You Man as the trailers I've seen made them look incredibly lame and because my wife had no desire to see either film, I never considered them a chick flick.

What if your wife wanted to see "The Great Escape" or "Dirty Dozen?" Would you call them chick flicks?

Good points. We saw this on Saturday and had a great time. Kristen Wiig is amazing and the script was hilarious. There are so many great female comedians out there who don't get enough of a showcase for their talents. Maybe this will put Wiig up in the Tina Fey/Amy Poehler stratosphere where she can get a lot more stuff made.
Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

                • My kids and I also saw Kung Fu Panda 2 on Saturday. You know, I usually hate Dreamworks Animation and its determination to turn every one of its animated film into an endless sequel machine, but I gotta say that I find the Kung Fu Panda world and characters so appealing, I'd be perfectly happy to see a new adventure roll around every couple years.

which starred Nicole Kidman with Tommy boy. Maybe Penelope Cruz could have redeemed Eyes Wide Shut if she starred opposite someone other than Tom Cruise.

Yes, yes. I completely crapped that up. I apologize, especially to Green Lantern who is now feverishly watching Vanilla Sky again.
