Word on the street is that Gravity is amazing in IMAX 3D.

However, Fandango doesn't appear to have it listed in IMAX or IMAX 3D anywhere along the Wasatch Front.

      Does anyone know differently?

I found it using movies.google.com. Stupid Fandango.

          Thanks.

I didn't have any problem identifying the IMAX 3D for Gravity through Fandango. Of course, I'm not on the Wasatch Front.

Documentary dealing with the different theories about Kubrick's The Shining. If you thought some of the theories about Breaking Bad were crazy, this is on a whole different level. Some of the shit is just hysterically off-the-wall, but the people are so sincere about it. Nutters.

              Streams on Netflix.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I've seen a segment of that on youtube. Interesting stuff.

                • Another vote for Gravity. Tight story, incredible visuals, intense action. The 3D was amazing.

                  • We saw Gravity the other night and I really enjoyed it. Their are a few movements that seem to contradict themselves but not so much that it takes away from the film. Surprisingly my wife enjoyed "Don Jon" and really didn't care for "Gravity".

                    • captain phillips. it was awesome, and not just because it will give any red blooded patriot a raging ameriboner. i know how the damn thing ends but there was still some great tension. my favorite part (and if this is a spoiler y'all should read the news) is the shot of the seals immediately after they take the shots. they pack up their gear, turn around, and walk off to whatever their next mission is.

It felt porno-ish that way, even before it started. I went to see it because I love JGL who wrote it, directed it, and stars in it. The content was way more explicit than I would have liked, I talked to my coworkers about this, and they thought so as well, even the ones who take selfies and dance with molly.

The movie's themes were interesting, but when you think about it, far from novel.
Spoiler for The rest of this is SPOILER:
                          Here are the themes:

                          1. Protagonist goes from "all guys do porno" to "well maybe a deeper emo relationship is more fulfilling" [Hardly a new idea]
                          2. The concept of the white knight on his horse coming to rescue the fair maiden is just as unrealistic as porn. [I think it was Stephen King who said that the Twilight Series is porn for white pre teen girls.]
                          3. The Catholic Church (and other churches) doesn't really address the loss of quality of life due to porn, most concentrating on the act of consuming porn and less on the escapism from life [someone posted in Donut's porn thread about the LDS Bishop who said that porn was nothing about desire and everything about escapism.]
                          4. He wastes a lot of his life on porn. [Nothing new]
                          4. His porn consumption led him to her, and her "porn" consumption led her to him. And they used each other in conjunction with their porn addictions. And he wakes up to the fact in the end (aided by her busting him) where she never knows what she is doing. [This was probably the most interesting theme.]

While all of that may not be novel to discussions people have here, it seems to be pretty novel for Hollywood. It wasn't perfect, and did suffer from some cliche moments, but I think overall it was pretty unique in terms of subject matter ... and to be honest, pretty daring. The Catholic Church's role (though I'm not sure he was singling out just Catholics) in the film might be the most interesting part. Not sure yet what point he was trying to make about the church ... or if he was making a point at all. It played a pretty prominent role though, so I think he was trying to say something.

I agree ... it was really good. Wasn't sure I was going to like it much after seeing the trailer with Hanks' awful accent work, but luckily he didn't say a whole lot. Greengrass really does great work with these kinds of films.

On a related note, apparently some of the crew is claiming the story is a big lie and the hijacking was all Captain Phillips' fault:

                            http://nypost.com/2013/10/13/crew-me...llips-heroism/

Frankly, I think the story might have been even better if the captain was the paragon of virtue he was made out to be in the film.

                            • Since the Dodgers were losing we watched This Is 40 last night. I really liked it. I don't know what it says about me or Gidget or our relationship but we laughed throughout because we could relate to several scenes including the one where Paul Rudd hides out in the bathroom on his iPad.

I had it figured out about half-way through. I thought there would be some surprise twist at the end, because I usually am not the type to have everything figured out so quickly, but it ends exactly how you think it should end. That would have been fine if there was some larger point it was trying to make ... but there wasn't. Better than most of the crap that has been in the theaters lately though. So glad that the Summer Movie Season is over and we get to see some good stuff again.
Just saw this, and I agree that it was pretty easy to figure out the mystery, but you didn't figure out that
                                Spoiler for spoiler:
Jackman would become a prisoner at the end, did you? That seemed like the twist. Easy to figure out that the kid had been abducted by his "aunt" and that she may have kidnapped the girls.

But I agree. Pretty dreary movie that didn't seem to make any larger point.
