  • I saw Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs last weekend. My daughter loved it. I think I loved it even more. I thought that was a pretty freaking funny kids movie. Lots of LOLing.

There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

    • Taps (1981).

I could not suspend my disbelief. Completely preposterous, bad acting by Tom Cruise, and the pacing was ridiculous. I started fast-forwarding through it. I remember it coming out when I was a kid and thinking that the famous scene with their red berets on all pointing their weapons at the police would be cool to see.

It proved to be the highlight of an unfortunate movie. Time was not kind to this one. Even George C. Scott's presence seemed forced and couldn't save it from itself.

      • "No Country For Old Men"

It's a running motif for me, but I feel like I should apologize for waiting this long to see it for the first time. The Coen brothers are extraordinary.

A SERIOUS MAN, their newest one, just came out on DVD. Have you seen that one yet?
Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

            • Saw Polanski's GHOST WRITER and liked it quite a bit. I think there's a thread devoted to it somewhere already.

That was a waste of time.

Yes, I have. Pretty interesting. One of the better dark comedies I've seen in a while.

It is a dark comedy (very dark) that in many places is crass and perverted to an uncomfortable degree. However, I did think it had some interesting ideas about way we redefine our relationships with people after their deaths, and about this whole cult of celebrity that seems to accompany such instances. Having lost a friend in HS, I could relate to a lot of what happens with the characters. As an additional bonus, you get to see Robin Williams package! 6/10.
I just got done watching this. Interesting, and pretty funny. Andrew's character is the most intriguing to me. He's the only one to give Kyle any regard, even though Kyle treats him like dirt, and afterwards Andrew is the only one who doesn't understand what's going on.

                    Spoiler for mild spoiler:
I suppose all dedications/funerals/the trail left after death are for those who survive, and it doesn't matter who you actually were, but how other people want to remember you. Seeing his dad try so hard to raise him, then create this false image of him after he dies so he can finally get published, is unsettling, but understandable. The ending is appropriate, though.

I loved it as well. I was surprised at how tender and romantic the movie was. In between all the double taps, of course.

                          • "Brothers Bloom"

Rian Johnson (of "Brick" fame) directed this. I liked it. I thought it was an unusual role for Mark Ruffalo, and at first it felt like he should've been cast as the younger brother, but by the end I was convinced. Rachel Weisz was great, including her bare behind. And I thought you could only say the F-word once in a PG-13 movie, but it turns out you can say it three times.

                            • This is terribly embarrassing, but Saturday night I watched Did You Hear About the Morgans? from start to finish. I have seen ward road shows that were better written.

Heh, I actually thought it was kind of funny.

The last thing I watched was Wicked this weekend down in Richmond. I searched on it and read the bulk of your post on it. Interesting stuff. I also found that show to be pretty entertaining.
