Watched A Prophet, which is a pretty cool story about a Corsican Muslim sent to prison for six years for getting into a fight with a police officer. To the Corsican mafia in the jail the youth is another Muslim, but to the Muslims, he is another Corsican. He has no friends or family on the outside and he is illiterate. When the Corsican mafia threatens to kill him if he doesn't assist in the murder of a fellow Muslim informant, the youth balks, but finally capitulates. His involvement in the assassination wins him some protection and begins his prison criminal career. He discovers within himself criminal talent so profound that other criminals who see his sudden rise wonder if he isn't some kind of prophet, capable of knowing things that other humans don't. This is a cool crime film that shows a peek into a French prison, which isn't so different than an American prison, except an old guard of traditional European gangsters is slowing being overtaken by a new prison population of Muslim immigrants. I liked the film very much.

I watched Michael Haneke's FUNNY GAMES about two young hoodlums who spend the entire movie torturing a family for kicks. This was the 2008 remake of his own movie from a decade earlier. Naomi Watts and Tim Roth are very good in the film and the whole thing is expertly shot and incredibly unnerving but I couldn't help feeling that I was being lectured the entire time. Haneke has made it clear that he intends the movie to be an indictment of movie audiences' lust for violence but I think he's a bit misguided. If you're trying to condemn American moviegoers' appetites for violent cinema, why would you couch your argument in a very European, deliberately paced, art film? The only people who are going to see your movie are likely people who already agree with your premise, film-festival fans who like hitting the art house theater. The true challenge would me to make a movie that can draw in the fans of casually violent flicks like BAD BOYS 2 and SAW and get them to listen to your schoolmaster diatribe. As it is, you're preaching to the choir.Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...
None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.
I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

"Hot Fuzz". Very funny movie. The "Romeo and Juliet" performance was intended to be over-the-top horrible, and it didn't disappoint."I don't know the origin of said bitch booming."-Art Vandelay

Somehow I got roped into watching Couples Retreat, and strangely that wasn't even the worst movie I've seen in the last week. My wife subjected me to documentaries about Anna Wintour (she's not as big a bitch as portrayed in The Devil Wears Prada) and Karl Lagerfeld that were just total snoozers. So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

We watched THE QUEEN this weekend and enjoyed it, particularly the two lead performances by Michael Sheen and Helen Mirren. I wish more "biopic" type movies focused on one moment in history like this one does. They seem to be a lot more effective than the ones who try to distill an entire life into a movie with a conventional three act structure.Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

On Wednesday I saw The Bounty Hunter, starring Gerard Butler, Jennifer Aniston and Jennifer Aniston's rack. The last of the three showed the greatest acting range in this movie. So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

On Tuesday, we watched THE BOX with Cameron Diaz. It's directed by Richard Kelly, who did DONNIE DARKO. Man, talk about a guy who likes to bite off more than he can chew. It was a "kitchen sink" movie: Lots of interesting ideas and good filmmaking all in service to a plot and screenplay that really needed some help. I mean, murder, brainwashing, aliens, conspiracies, the afterlife. Man, what a crazy movie. This movie failed, but it was an ambitious failure, which I always find kind of endearing.Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...
