August 1991 through November 1991 in music

Here are some of the albums that were released between the months of August 1991 through November 1991:

8/13/91: Metallica, Black Album (15 million)

8/27/91: Pearl Jam, Ten (13 million)

9/17/91: Guns and Roses, Use Your Illusion I and II (7 million each)

    9/24/91: Nirvana, Nevermind (10 million)

9/24/91: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Blood Sugar Sex Magic (13 million)

    11/19/91: U2, Achtung Baby (18 million)

Has there ever been a time when so many huge albums (commercially and critically) came out in such a short period of time?

By the way the top selling album of 1992 was Billy Ray Cyrus's debut album "Some Gave All" lol. Somehow that piece of shit has sold 20 million copies.

Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I have no idea if there has ever been a comparable time and I'm too lazy to do the research. However, I'm curious if a Beatles and Stones album was released in such close proximity.

Don't forget Ozzy's No More Tears. That one sold a buttload. His last decent album...

Your list, although impressive, is over a span of three months. I submit to you a single, earth-shattering day, that will echo through the annals of time:

                    November 18, 2008:

I am... Sasha Fierce -- Beyonce (best album of alllllll tiiiiiiiime)

                    Breakout -- Miley Cyrus (albeit a re-release)

                    Dark Horse -- Nickelback

                    Check. Mate.

'70 and '71 were banner years for albums.

Let it Be - May 1970 (all of the Beatles except for Paul released solo albums in 1970)
                      Black Sabbath - June 1970
                      Cosmo's Factory - July 1970
Led Zeppelin III - October 1970
                      Tapestry - March 1971
                      Sticky Fingers - April 1971
                      What's Going On - May 1971
                      Blue - June 1971
                      Who's Next - July 1971
                      Tupelo Honey - October 1971
Led Zeppelin IV - November 1971
                      Hunky Dory - December 1971

There are a ton more in that time period. Looks like it was a good time for music. Not as close together as Art's list, though.

Who's Next was released on July 31, 1971 and Led Zeppelin's Zoso was released on November 3, 1971. Who's Next only sold 3 million copies though. Two excellent albums though. Sticky Fingers came out in April 1971. The bands of the 60s and 70s also seemed to produce albums a lot more frequently, probably because they often only had about 8 songs as opposed to the 12 or 13 on modern albums.

I was going to list both this album and Michael Jackson's Dangerous. But the thing is, Badmotorfinger didn't even come close to the sales of these other albums. Dangerous was just a crappy album and didn't belong on the list.

A much more exhaustive list then my post about 1971 and I didn't see it before I posted. But I wholeheartedly agree, 1970 and 71 were pretty great years for music.

Hey I also left the Spin Doctors Pocketful of Kryptonite off the list, that came out in August 1991. How'd I miss that one?
