I had no idea the Deftones were still making music.
I was at the record shop yesterday and noticed that Cracker is also putting out a new album. Talk about a couple blasts from the past.
I'm kind of interested in what the new Cracker album sounds like.So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Ha. Not that Cracker. I was under the impression that Lowery had left the Cracker thing last year and got back together with Camper Van Beethoven. In fact, CVB played a show here last year with Band of Horses. But apparently he's still playing with both outfits. So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

So I'm listening to a stream of that new Sparklehorse and Danger Mouse project on NPR's website. Anyone else heard about this? Apparently the album was going to be packaged together with a book of photos by David Lynch, but now they're in a legal dispute with EMI (what bitches those guys are) and can't release the album. The book will still be coming out, and there'll be a blank CD with it encouraging people to go online and download it from a file sharing site.
Sounds pretty good thus far. I always think Danger's production is pretty terrific. So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Commando, they've brought in a replacement bassist to aid in the recording of this album. And I guess the Deftones bassist was released from the hospital last weekend.Originally posted by Commando View Postreally? Saw Pela last night and got the chance to hear some new stuff from their upcoming LP. That record has taken forever to come out, but apparently they weren't satisfied with the first recording, scrapped the thing, and rerecorded the whole album. The new material sounds pretty great, and off course the songs from their 2007 debut are killer. They've added a new guy to the band who plays some extra guitar and keys, and they've reworked some of the old tunes to incorporate him and use him in the vocal harmonies. A couple of the new songs also featured some horns, which was cool. I thought they sounded great last night and hope this record comes out soon!So Russell...what do you love about music? Also, the much hyped/anticipated Grizzly Bear album is out...thoughts?
I know the thing leaked months ago, but after reading that the leak was extremely low quality, I actually waited for the proper release to listen to it. So, I've heard it just a couple times now, but I like. Heavy on texture and ambiance like Yellow House, and if you like that one, you'll probably dig this. Or, if you are like UtahDan and have an antiquated notion of what song structure should be, they'll you probably complain that there aren't any "tunes" and reach for your Jack Johnson CD

IOW, that there should be some identifiable structure somewhere?Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostAlso, the much hyped/anticipated Grizzly Bear album is out...thoughts?

Actually, I don't think I have said that. But I have said that I need to be able to walk away humming some catchy part of it. And anyway what does everyone have against Jack Johnson? The more people think he is uncool the longer Banana Pancakes stays in rotation.
