Shows on the list that I have never seen: Deadwood, Eastbound and Down, Venture Bros and Six Feet Under.

I'd like to know if anyone else on the board watches VENTURE BROS. It's my personal pick for funniest show on television, but it's probably a bit of an acquired taste. Also, it appeals to my love of all things geeky.

I just read that in February Smallville is doing a two hour episode on the origins of the Justice League.

I've only seen two episodes so far this season. I need to catch up soon.

So I'm about 2/3 of the way through Freaks and Geeks and loving it, though I will admit it took me a while to get into it. I think my problem was that it was billed as a top-notch comedy, and I was expecting something that was just over-the-top funny. A TV critic I like ranked it the best comedy of the decade over Arrested Development, and having seen AD and thinking it's pretty much the funniest show ever, I though Freaks and Geeks would be more in that outrageously hysterical vein, which it is not.

Of course there are moments that are painfully funny, but it succeeds as much with its heart as it does with its humor. Every episode has moments that are just incredibly touching and tender, but without feeling forced or contrived. When I pieced together the fact that it was more a coming-of-age tale than outright comedy, I really started loving it. This is from the episode I just watched:

Of those shows, I've only watched about 4 or 5. And of those, I've only seen a handful of episodes.

Finished Freaks and Geeks last night and thought it was just great (loved the closing montage over the Grateful Dead -- glad I got to see them before Jerry died). A pitch perfect portrayal of first crushes, first kisses, and all the awkwardness of growing up. It took me several episodes to really get a feel for the show, and I enjoyed the second half of the series much more than the first since I had a better grasp of it. I think now I need to go back and watch it again and I'll get more out of the first half.

Would have been nice to have a few more episodes, but in some way it still feels complete.

One of the all-time greats. That show was so good that I get a little thrill whenever one of its cast members turns up on something else. I always think "Yeah, that guy/girl deserves success. He/She was on f---ing FREAKS AND GEEKS!"

Also, whenever I make a public faux pas, I loudly lament "I'm sorry, John Bonham died!"

It was fun seeing so many people that I now recognize from other stuff. Obviously Franco, Rogen and Segel are huge, but even little appearances by the likes of a teenage Rashida Jones were a big kick.

I also recognized Millie from random bits on Grey's Anatomy, Kim from Cougar Town, the snotty cheerleader as the lead on the WB's short-lived Privileged, and who knew Biff would end up a high school gym coach? But the biggest thrill was when I realized that the bully who puts peanuts in Bill's sandwich is none other than Michael "Squints" Palledorous from The Sandlot. Awesome!
