Thanks for the list MG, downloaded the Vampire Weekend cd and much of the Santogold disc as well. Also grabbed some MGMT and Frightened Rabbit both of which I'd heard on NPR's best albums of the first half of 2008 broadcast a while back.

Was Gracey jocking Vampire Weekend?

i'm glad you included the gaslight anthem in you list. those guys are amazing -very young too. so their sound if just getting started.
for fans of that id reccomend listening to Tom Gabel's ep called heart burns. gabel is the lead singer from Against Me! its good stuff

Medeski, Martin, and Wood - Radiolarians I was a very good album, far from their best album, but good none the less. It is actually the only album I have even had a chance to check out from 2008.

Next album from 2008 that I will get is also MMW. Zaebos is MMW performing songs by John Zorn, not sure how that could be bad in any way.

21. Grand Archives by The Grand Archives – These guys, along with the likes of Band of Horses, Fleet Foxes and The Moondoggies, are redefining the sound of Seattle. Gone is the grunge of yesteryear and in its place pastoral folk/pop/rock. GA’s debut had some inconsistencies, but it certainly established them as a band to watch.

Been listening to Band of Horses. Everything All the Time is a good album. I love the song The Great Salt Lake. I'll be looking forward to a 2009 album from them.

I'm a big fan, love both of their records. I was sad to see them move, but once they broke nationally and were no longer a local scene band, Bridwell said it made no sense to pay Seattle rent when home became nothing more than a place to stay for the couple of weeks per year they weren't on tour.

Amazing what has become of the beloved Carissa's Wierd. Bridwell started BofH to great success. After one album with BofH, Mat Brooke started Grand Archives and appears poised to have a nice career. And Sera Cahoone also played on one BofH record and has since started a nice solo gig.

Okay now I've sampled the whole list. Downloaded 10 songs. You have a taste for synth-pop/electronica and punk that I don't. My tastes run more to folk/pop. There were a number there that I thought, I really like their sound, if only there was a catch tune in the group. To your way of thinking I'm sure that means I missed the point. Anyway, overall well worth the listen and several new additions to my library.

Are you a critic of some kind? Just a very eclectic mix to be exposed to.

I have been putting together a best of 2009 for the last little while and I realize that not only is the above statement no longer true (lots of it on my list) but you have me thinking in terms of albums again. You are making it hard for me to be my own guy. In fact, there is still a ton of folk and blues I still need to listen to by the end of the year so I have been neglecting my natural inclinations (though Levon Helm's new album is AWESOME and in my skull).

Well, it's all Radiohead/Thom stuff. He's put out 6 songs this year, and I've had to find some way to listen to them. I just lumped them together with some Radiohead stuff that I haven't listened to as much as I wanted because they came from ep's or singles or are unreleased.
