    SNL

I was channel surfing last night and came upon the Black Eyed Peas playing on SNL. All I can say is that Fergie is enjoyable to watch perform.

I am not a Fergie fan. But I am glad you found enjoyment.

And abs. Don't forget the abs! I agree on the face, though--she's somewhat of a two-bagger. (I don't think I've used that term since high school, so I'm pretty content about digging it up.)

Fergie is a man. Josh Duhamel had to find out the hard way.

PS January Jones was terrible. How many times did she break? Seems like she was laughing during every skit. And she kept messing up her lines.

            Do people still watch SNL?

Yes. It still is a comedy show. I think what you are trying to say is that you are getting older and are laboring under the impression that Wayne's World and the Church Lady was the height of comedy. There are video stores that will rent you these oldies if you feel so inclined.

The last time I watched it, it had that kid from the Keenan and Kel Show that my kids used to watch. That's when I realized I had outgrown the show. It will happen to you someday as well. Be patient.

It was a pretty crappy episode this week.

Lots of regurgitated unfunny skits and a skit whose humor completely relied on farting and a short about potty breaks.

Not the best episode. There have been much better episodes this year than that one.

Basically this has always been the case. I love having this discussion when people bring up "the old days" of SNL because in any SNL era, the episodes consists of a few really funny skits and a bunch of filler crap that sucks. Nothing has changed. There is a reason the show has been on for 20 years. The formula works.

That doesn't explain the longevity. It's always been about seeing who is going to transcend the show and break out -- the latest being Will Ferrell and Tina Fey. Last time I checked out the show I didn't see a lot of potential break-out talent. A lot Tim Kazarinkskis with a few Chris Kattans scattered in.

This current crop just started this season! The show had a lot of turnover this summer. Prior to this season, you had a bumper crop with several folks that busted out...

Tina Fey left the show a few seasons ago and is now an Emmy-winning smash with 30 Rock. Tracy Jordan went with her.

Amy Poehler just left one season ago and now Parks and Rec has been picked up by NBC.

Andy Samberg digital shorts are pop culture hits, as well (we even have one CUF tagline that says "I'm On a Boat")

Kristin Wiig is suffering from over-exposure, she is so popular. I think it will hasten her departure from the show. Not sure if she has much future in films, but generally the transition to film has been rough for most SNL cast members. For every one that makes it, several fail.

The show is still relevant and the formula works. If you find yourself saying "I don't get this humor!" it is likely more an indication that you are slipping, not the show. Happens to all of us with age.

I didn't think this Saturday's show was very funny, but if you look closely, they generally are mostly unfunny. People tune in to catch a good musical guest and the few skits that are memorable.

Go back and rent some old SNL episodes with Belushi, Murray, Murphy, etc....BRUTAL. Even the "classic" skits aren't all as funny as we used to think. Land Shark at the front door? I don't know why that used to be so funny when I was a kid. The Galactic Prophylactic....LOLOL! not really.

I never got into it. Had roommates at college that did. One out of town visitor was there and it got real sleazy and I suggested changing it and out of town visitor said you can go in other room.

I wrote to the scroll about that incident and how it was a bad show. That was before common cellpone and callerid days on telephone got 3 or 4 calls to my apartment about the letter want to come watch saturday night live. Didn't know who they were. Mentioned letter. Some girls at2 that mornng invivited me to there apartment to watch saturday night Live. I really ripped that show and said hopefully ricks students have something better to do 10:30 SAturday night than watch that show on kifi nbc or anywere else.

I don't think I seen more than 5 minutes of that show since I been home from my mission. It is in a I beleive April 1995 Scroll at Ricks College if anyone can find it.
