Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

    • Russell is great, no doubt, but people are starting overrate how good he is.

      1. If you never put yourself in position to win the game, how good can you be? To merely last is not the point, you want to win, right?

      2. He's lasted way longer than he should because nobody in this group knows him. Had Russell's season aired before this one started, he'd already be gone.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

      • I appreciated Rupert's rocks-in-the-pocket move last night.

I also think that the immunity idols are too easy to find. I think I prefer the Exile Island hunt-for-it way.

This is key, IMO. Parvati is much more impressive. She already has a Survivor victory, a top 6, and is the running for another top 3 finish (though I tend to doubt she can win again). Her victory came after her season had already aired, so every contestant knew what they were up against.

My thoughts on your #1 -- remember that the Russell we're watching right now in Heroes vs. Villains doesn't know that he didn't win the million dollars in Samoa, and based on his reaction after losing that million it's clear that he very strongly feels the winner should be the strongest (win-at-all-costs) person and never someone who rode on any coattails. This is the sequence of events for Russell: 1. Samoa filming, 2. Heroes v. Villains filming, 3. Samoa live results episode, 4. H v. V live results episode.

I agree, which is why I think that people were crazy not to axe from the get-go. I think she's only around because Russell was in lust with her.

If he thinks win-at-all-costs is what wins, then he hasn't watched enough Survivor and/or he doesn't really understand the way the jury works.

Didn't that essentially work for Richard in Season I?

Maybe. I was only pointing out what I think Russell is thinking, based on his reaction to his 2nd place Samoa finish.

Exactly. And in that instant, the game changed forever. People realized that they didn't want the manipulating backstabber to get rich, so practically every jury since then has voted against that person, provided they didn't get voted off at tribal council.

And I wasn't talking about what Russell is thinking, but rather what others are saying. People know that he didn't win Samoa and there's not a chance he'll win this one, but you keep hearing that he is the greatest player ever. If you never actually win it all, I'm not sure how you can be considered the greatest ever.

I see that, but nonetheless, he hatches his "get rid of Danielle" plan and I'm thinking no way. But he manages to pull it off. I understand we're only seeing the footage the show wants us to see, but still, dumping the big bearded dude was the obvious choice.

Like someone else has noted, I think he's banking on people choosing the person that played the game the best. At the end of the day, after a week and half in the hotel, I'd probably come around to voting for him our of admiration.
                          Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I think that more often than not the best player doesn't win...but I guess then you have to define what the best player is then. If it is just defined as the last one standing, then that's one thing. If you look at it as a game, the way Russell does, seperate from the real world, then I think an argument could be made that on a day-to-day tribal-to-tribal basis, he is at leat in the top 5. Not only has he survived, but he has done so with some of the biggest blindside moves in the game.

No they don't know that, the Russell we're watching right now on All-Stars doesn't even know it because this All-Stars filming occurred before the live results show of Samoa.

I'm talking about the people who watch the show, not the contestants. You know, people like us. They are the ones saying he's the greatest ever and know he didn't win Samoa.
