The "what are you listening to at this very moment" thread
April Wine's Nature of the Beast. What a great album.
"Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." - Winston Churchill
"I only know what I hear on the news." - Dear Leader
Dan! Dan! Dan! (This is me cheering for you). You're on a role with your albums. Apparently I am quite the inspiration.
In other news, I saw Grizzly Bear last weekend. Ed Droste has the best live voice I've ever heard. Watching him sing it's almost like there's this weird disconnect between what you're seeing and what you're hearing. He looks totally casual, almost like he's not even making much of an effort, and you expect his vocals to be of slightly less quality than on record; but incredibly he sounds just as clear and perfect. Watching him sing The Foreground just sent shivers down my spine. Like Morrissey filtered through a choir of angels.
Turns out they'll be opening for Wilco in Feb. Looking forward to seeing them again.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.
By far, by far, my favorite Sufjan Stevens track. Simple, but emotionally powerful. I loved Illinois top to bottom.
Has anyone listened to BQE yet? I know it came out last week but I haven't sampled it. I intend to.
see my post above.
HOwever, that may not be entirely fair since it was a municipality-commissioned sort of symphony deal. For all intents and purposes, it's not a Sufjan record, if that's what you're after.
Do you have the Christmas box set? Some of the best Sufjan, truly. Especially "That Was the Worst Christmas Ever"
"I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! I'll make his whole brand go under,"

Sorry, I missed your review above. I'll give it a chance, but it probably won't be my cup of tea. I do have the Christmas album and love it. His version of Holy, Holy, Holy would certainly make my top 25 Christmas songs.
FWIW, the dvd video set to the music that comes with BQE is pretty darn cool. It's an amazing art project but you'll be mad if you drop money for it thinking it's a Sufjan record like I did.
