    Currently watching Empire Strikes Back

With my boys while enjoying day 2 of Snow Week.

This is a great movie. Pretty much everything cool about Star Wars is ESB. This is the first time I have watched it in years, I regret ever thinking the new movies were even decent.

After being lured into watching Jar Jar Binks, I vowed never to watch another George Lucas film again. I have not seen the originals (or their remakes) in at least a decade, maybe two. On the other hand, I remember thinking the Ewoks movie was just as good as the rest of them so I'm probably not the right person for Star Wars affirmation.

There is a reason everyone likes Empire Strikes Back the most.

It is the only one of the 6 whose screenplay was not written by Lucas AND that was not directed by Lucas.

The other reason is Harrison Ford.

I still get a smile when I think,

        "I love you."

        "I know."

Empire Strikes Back is definitely the summit.

He is in the other 2 movies, also. He even grabs Leia's boob in The return of the jedi.

But ESB is usually the resounding favorite.

Also, in the 3 prequels, Lucas writes and directs all of them....more involved than he was on Episodes 4-6.

basically, the less he is involved in making the movie, the better.

I know. But my point is you take Ford out of the films and there's nothing about them that resonates. He was essential; like MJ on the Bulls in the '90's he made everyone better. (Sorry for the Bulls analogy.) Lucas was HF's Pippen.

A blatant rip-off from Shaft, by the way.

              Ellie Moore: I love you

              John Shaft: Yeah, I know.

I read once that the linme by HF was ad libbed. The script supposeedly said "I love you too" but he threw in "I know" in oner take and they liked it.

Not to change gears but I prefer Ryan Atwood's reply to Marissa Cooper's I love you.

                  Marissa: "I love you."
                  Ryan: "Thank you."

Coincidentally, my son watched Star Wars for the first time this week. He was absolutely giddy the entire time, and hasn't stopped light-sabering since. My husband occasionally tries to claim Jeff is the mailman's kid, but I think not. He's all Flash.

I've always been a big fan of that sort of stuff. BIG BH90210 fan, Melrose etc. I had high hopes for The O.C. but it went in the crapper after the first year or so.
