I don't think it's PC. Every time I go to Salt Lake City it seems like all I see are Subaru Outbacks. Maybe you'd better get one of those.

I had heard that but those cars are everywhere. There can't be that many LGBT folks in Salt Lake. Either that, or there were a lot of closeted people milling around that Subaru lot in SLC.

Up this way there is a certain cliche with Outbacks. At any trailhead, mtn bike route or river put-in at least every other car is an Outback, racked up, normally with some stickerage.

It signifies a certain something, it's hard to explain. It's like what the Volvo wagon is in North East, the Subaru Outback is in the PNW.

Its drivers are normally whitish, educated, outdoorsy (in an REI sort of way), but with a live-and-work-in-the city vibe – normally in software or engineering. I even have an old one in the garage. We only use it to trek up FS roads, etc on the weekends. Maybe I'm that cliche.

It's funny. You see them quite a bit in areas like SLC, PNW, and Denver. It's the AWD. Same reason Audis seem to be all over these same areas. Subarus are for the outdoorsy types. Audis for the suits.

I was going to say, there are a lot more than most out-of-staters realize. By no means are we San Francisco, but there are quite a few around here.

We looked at a Cayenne, but ended up going with the Infiniti QX45. We liked the extra space the Infiniti had, and didn't love the ride of the Cayenne. Yeah, it's a Porsche, but we don't care about image.
