    Happy Birthday danimal!

    Consider this your card.

Actually, I am a bit of a procrastinator. I got him a couple of things, but I'd like to get him some new music as well. Any suggestions? MarkGrace, DDD, I'd love you guys to weigh in. Some bands he likes are Modest Mouse, Iron & Wine, Belle & Sebastian, Built to Spill, The Killers, Wilco and of course, The Pixies. Any suggestions for something I could pick up today?
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

          First, Happy Birthday to Danimal!

Second, if he is in the mood for some upbeat, fun music, I would recommend some really accessible discs that are relatively new and everyone seems to enjoy (I am skipping the ones that have already been discussed often on CUF.....bands like Animal Collective, Grizzly Bear, fleet foxes, hot chip, band of horses, et al....which are all very good, but you have likely already read about them here....in case you have not, those would be a good start):

          1. Phoenix: Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix
          2. The Bird and the Bee: Ray Guns are Not Just the Future
          3. Vitalic: if you like electronica, the new album is floating around out there. "Your Disco Song" is the first single.
          4. Dirty Projectors:Rise Above or Bitte Orca....this is a quirky band with a really offbeat sound.
          5. Bat for Lashes: their new disc is pretty good, "Two Suns."
          6. Tim Myers: "The Good Life." Only problem with this disc is that is has been co-opted by Target and run into the ground. That being said, everyone seems to like the songs.

You can try out TV on the Radio, We Are Scientists, Los Campesinos!, the Silversun Pickups, etc etc.

Most of these bands have released stuff in the past year or so. Go to their myspace pages and sample what you like.

One other thought is a cool Michael Jackson collection. The King of Pop is where it's at right now!

A few other bands that have interesting tracks:

The Dutchess and the Duke (esp if you like Iron and Wine)
Plants and Animals (Lola Who? is a cool song)
            Beirut
The Pains of Being Pure at Heart (Young Adult Friction).

These are bands that I want to check out more but haven't had time. the tracks I have heard I have liked.

Thanks DDD. Do you think I could find these at Target or Best Buy. I don't have time for shipping.

I jotted them all down and headed to Target (I had to go there today anyway, otherwise I would have gone to a store with better selection.) I am out of time so I can't run somewhere else. I think I will just order something on Amazon and then wrap up my invoice. Lame, I know.

Thanks for your help. I gotta run now and finish making the German chocolate cake. Fitday be damned!
