2. Divulging private information about another person without that person’s consent is strictly forbidden. This includes name, occupation, location, etc. This is also common sense and good manners. Do we really need to spell this out?
7. Private messages are private. There is no mechanism in the vBulletin software, even for the top-level administrator, to view someone else's private messages.
Perhaps the rule is only to let people know that PMs can't be read by people other than the recipient. We may need some clarification.

What private info are you talking about? Does cj really have a lot of scarves?
I'm just asking for clarification if PMs are allowed to be shared, not that I'm looking to share any. You have a rule that defines private messages as "private" and a rule that forbids disclosing private information. Again, asking for clarification.

I am assuming you posted #2 because you were anticipating the "Funks a shitty lawyer" posts

If I'm in charge, I think it's pretty clear that common sense should prevail. Anything dumb like the stuff cj posted= whatever. Now if it's real life stuff, anything alluding to real life stuff, or- like you said- discloses private information, obviously should not be posted. If somebody PMs me to taunt me, chew me out, be an asshole, whatever-- I wouldn't think twice about disclosing that. It's shitty behavior, which I don't think has a right to privacy like your real life stuff, if that makes any sense. And FTR, I don't think anything cj disclosed in the PMs is any shittier than the stuff he posts for all to see, so there's that.
And I think anything related to profession, location, etc. that is disclosed in the course of the open message board is free game. Additional info disclosed in a PM should be kept there. This is all very obvious and common sense to most here. Therefore, I don't think there should be a uniform ban on PMs being shared, just private info in general.

i don't think 7 means what you think it means. it just means mods can't read pms.

Yes. If you make fun of Dave Rose for having cancer then you're an asshole who should have no expectation of privacy.

Bingo.
If someone sends three years worth of unsolicited bizarro PMs (none of which appear to disclose any personal, private information) without a single response, how can you argue that a reasonable expectation of privacy applies here? I got no time for this kind of drama.
