I'm always interested in charitable causes, even though I'm not nearly as generous as I should be. I like Anne Morrow Lindbergh's comment that "My life can't implement into action everything to which my heart responds." But that doesn't excuse us from trying.
I'd like to see specific projects and causes mentioned here that deserve our attention. I'll mention one that my wife and others in our ward are working on. Days for Girls provides hygiene kits and health education to girls in Africa. I was surprised to learn that millions of girls miss 4-5 days of school every month because they lack basic feminine hygiene materials. This results in their falling behind in their studies and, for hundreds of thousands, dropping out.
Read the website, and watch some of the videos, including the founder's Ted Talk, for some interesting details. The founder, btw, is LDS, although this program has gained considerable traction throughout the country from a variety of organizations. The website has several interesting videos showing the program in action and the difference that is being made in the lives of young women.
Our ward's RS is putting together hundreds of hygiene kits as part of its holiday service effort. Days for Girls might also be a worthy recipient of the CS Holiday Challenge proceeds, but I'll leave that to Moliere and others to decide. At least it would show our concerns for women extend beyond Taylor Swift's measurements.
Any particular charity attracting your attention this time of year?
