  • Student housing at the U

Sorry to start a thread for such a narrow topic, especially concerning the U, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Our youngest is starting his third year at the U, which inexplicably he really likes. Unfortunately, the housing he thought he had lined up for the coming year just fell through, so he's looking to share a house or apartment. He's checking Craigslist, want ads, the U's Housing Department, even the Institute bulletin board despite not being active LDS (although he lives an LDS lifestyle). He'll have a car this fall, but he'd prefer something fairly close to the U, and ideally somewhere near public transportation.

I recognize this is a longshot, but if anyone has any leads concerning possible suitable housing for him, I'd be grateful if you'd pass it along...

His mother might object, but I'd have no problem with it.

I confess my first thought upon reading KL's post was of Suzanne Somers.

Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

You would have to be pretty mature and grounded to handle something like that.

I am planning on taking a couple of classes up at the U and am not looking forward to the commute to Bountiful on those days. I might be looking for a place.

This is wrong in multiple ways. First, I'm convinced your laugh was not audible. Second, I am not cute. Third, believe me when I tell you I have years of experience with kids lying while violating every element of For the Strength of Youth. We're not deluding ourselves with respect to a kid's behavior anymore. In this instance, we're very confident he's not smoking, drinking or partaking of drugs, which is all I meant by LDS lifestyle. Oh, and up yours.

I agree with everything PAC said, including he isn't cute. I also agree with "up his".

I hope he doesn't find anywhere to live and has to transfer to a different school.

Has he tried Langhi's old student apartment? I know there is a vacancy there now!

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

No specific help to provide, but maybe some guidance. KSL.com classifieds are much better in SLC that Craiglist. Have him search the Rooms for Rent section for SLC, with a keyword of University. It might provide some good results.
