I really hate to be cynical in a thread full of hope-- especially about the Zinger-- but I much preferred the Zinger back when it was a Dolly Madison product. They shut down and Hostess scooped up the brand I guess. The old zinger had a different flavor to the cake and frosting, whereas the new Zinger is kind of a glammed up Twinkie. I would love to see the Zinger restored to its former glory.*



*I fully allow for the possibility that my childhood/adolescent palate may be steering me wrong and that the new Zinger is superior. Or that it is exactly the same. However, my message board stance will remain unchanged until empirical evidence is presented that hurts my position.

Dolly Madison Zingers were different, I agree. Same with the Dolly Madison fruit pies. My fave Zinger was the polarizing coconut and red goo zinger. Dont think that was the actual name of the flavor, but that is all I have right now.

Now we're talking! Hostess used to call its version the "Tiger Tail." I loved em all. I also liked how they used to have the Peanuts gang on the wrapper, too.

Hostess needs to get its act together and, instead of producing 3 or 4 different products that are the exact same thing but in different shapes (1. Ding Dong 2. Cupcake 3. Ho Hos 4. Chocodile) bring back the Choco-Bliss. That was the first chocolate-based product I ever liked, being a Vanilla Man from the beginning. What a nice comeback that would be!

I'll also put a request out for the Hostess Pudding Pies, and the Hostess Blackberry Pie! :rockon2:

this is a great pic. I love the "3d" effect on each Zinger, almost as though they are all racing towards my face so I can eat each one. one of them already has a bite taken out, which is actually kind of gross now that i think about it.

you could argue that the ding dong and ho-ho are basically the same thing, but a hostess cupcake is quite different and a Chocodile isn't even chocolate cake. Never had a Choco Bliss.

the "bite" is too clean to be an actual bite. I think the delicious zinger was simply cut in half to show off its delicious creamy center...at least that is what I am telling myself.

Well that's splitting hairs a little. A chocolate covered Twinkie tastes a lot like a Ho Ho/Ding Dong, and who would argue that a Cupcake is fundamentally different from a Ding Dong?

The Choco Bliss had, I think, four different kinds of chocolate in each one- a chocolate frosting, a chocolate cake, and a layer of chocolate whipped creme between the two layers of cake. There might have also been a chocolate creme filling in the cakes a-la-Twinkie. Mmmmmm.
