    Go Pro & Quadcopter

My friend took this in Naranjo, Costa Rica today using a Go Pro attached to a Quadcopter.

    Check this out:

The Quadcopter is a little less than $500 on Amazon.

The camera is a little less than $400

I've got to figure out how to get one of these for taking photos and video at Coker baseball games!

I love that! I would be scared it would blow away or something, but I would really be tempted to do that. How great would that be for videos in the Tetons or snowboarding or something?

Imagine the violations of privacy possible with this thing. Paparazzi can get anywhere with this.

That would be fun to play with but I could see it becoming useless in a short amount of time.

I would recommend that you take a few buckshot rounds to pop in to bring down these bigger birds.

My wife got me a GoPro Hero 3+ for Father's Day. It's been fun to play with the last couple of weeks but has really just served as another reminder that I don't live a very exciting life considering the most interesting thing I've done with it to date involved the water slide at our gym. I'll take it with us to Lake Powell in a few weeks as well as a snorkel fish survey the first week of August, so hopefully those will serve up some cool opportunities. We've got a quadrocopter here at the office that my old boss purchased before moving to a new department. I need to figure if I can adequately incorporate the camera into it (it has a built in camera but they're sh$*).

                    Anyone else have one?

I bought one for my son for Christmas. The video quality is unbelievable. The problem is that we can never get him to compile, edit, and upload the videos.

I agree with the quality. Maybe I'll get over it as I play with it more, but it seems that the simplicity of it all has been limiting. Sure the GoPro app gives you nice functionality to change settings and view from the camera, but the wireless range is so small, it seems almost pointless. I would trade a little more size for an LED window (which I guess you can get as an accessory) and a couple more buttons/switches.

Same problem with my 12 year-old son. He's taken quite a few videos, but he never does anything with them. Oh well, it was what he wanted for Christmas.

I've got the original Hero. I haven't done any editing, but have uploaded a few videos to youtube - boogieboarding with kids and grandkids, and a few mountain bike descents. I don't know how interesting they'd be to anyone here, but it does show what you might expect from a moving platform (handheld with the boogie board, and attached to the bike stem in the bike videos). https://www.youtube.com/user/mtnbiker310/videos.

I don't think I'd ever be able to do this for fear of loosing both the quadrocopter and the camera, but the effects are pretty amazing if you haven't seen this already.
