I'm looking for a nice pen to carry around. I've recently taken to carrying a small notebook with me to jot down ideas and thoughts I have while out and about. While I'm fine for now with just a cheap ballpoint in my pocket for now, I'm interested in looking at something nicer. Something that won't look quite as incongruent as whipping out a bic ballpoint from my jacket pocket. Not to mention the cheaper the pen, I feel the more likely it is to leak/ruin my clothes. I'd hate for a $2 pen to ruin a jacket 100 times that price.

Any tips for a pen in the <$50 range? <$100?

I am aware of the more recognizable brands, I carried a Cross pen around with me HS, but brand recognition does not necessarily equate to high quality.

For some reason in my mission Parker pens became the rage. It was always funny to me how those trends started.

If I ever spend $2 on a pen, I've spent too much. Why not get some sort of notebook planner that has a place to put a pen? That way you don't have put it in your pocket and worry about it leaking, while still spending the just $0.50 you should be spending on a pen.

Because I'm vain apparently, and I like nice things. I also don't want to be sitting at a bar and whip out a bic pen that would just look out of place with the rest of the look. Just like I wouldn't wear a cheap athletic watch.

Just be that guy that uses his cellphone to records messages to himself. I have a coworker that loves to do that.

          "Call Gary Smith 8018999000"

"Pickup dry cleaners after 5pm Thursday July 7th"

Or better yet cellphones have notepads in them now, throw out that old flip phone and pickup the S4. You can jot down all of your notes right in your phone and not look like a jackass carrying around a pen and notepad.

If you insist on having a pen with you, maybe pick up a pocket protector so you don't have to worry about leakage. I am sure Gucci makes one.

Even better - hire a secretary to just follow him around. Instead of whipping out a pen to jot something down, he can just turn to the secretary and dictate it to her. Bonus if she shows good cleavage.

              This.
Premise of the thread--I don't want to look like a dork with a cheap pen. The pen isn't the problem.

What exactly would you be writing down at a bar? A ladies phone number? If you really want to impress the ladies, memorize. Just don't look like your trying super hard to memorize her number or you'll look creepy. Make it look smooth. As if your mind is kind of machine.

Don't listen to these bastards, lambdacoug. Nothing wrong with a shirt pocket full of pens.

Here is a trick for you single guys that I learned long ago. When a lady gives you her number, repeat it but change one of the digits. If she says yeah thats it. You know she gave you a fake phone number. If she corrects you it was real.
