    The Muscle Car Thread

I didn't see a thread for this subject, so here it goes.

Seems that Chrysler is discontinuing its Challenger next year and going with a reissue of the Plymouth Barracuda. I hope they badge it as a plymouth b/c that would be sweet.

    Original Iteration:

    2015:

Not terrible, but I think I like the Challenger's reboot better.

I agree. The Challenger is a much better idea than the Barracuda. I suspect Chrysler hasn't liked the sales figures for the Challenger and are trying to turn a new leaf. Chrysler usually doesn't do this. They usually ride a model until that models rides into the sunset with the whole corporation not far behind.

I notice the Charger reboot is pretty ubiquitous- seemingly popular w the soccer moms as well as the sports car enthusiasts, whereas the Challenger does look more like a specialty car. It is pretty gorgeous though.

I like how the Challenger actually looks like the old Challenger. I can't see the Barracuda of old in the new iteration besides the rear side windows. I would like to see the back of the new.

yeah it's stylized for sure... I do see the front grill and windows as you mentioned. I'm sure it's fast as shit, but I think I'd take the old one as far as looks go. I have heard people having a really difficult time restoring the old ones b/c Plymouths were steaming piles and problematic.

More info on the 'Cuda as per Car and Driver:

2015 SRT Barracuda: All-New Global Platform, Bad-Ass Retro Badge

25 Cars Worth Waiting For: 2014–2017

WHAT IT IS: A rear-drive coupe and convertible that will replace at least the Dodge Challenger SRT8 if not the whole Challenger lineup.

WHY IT MATTERS: A fresh update on the pony-car theme, the Barracuda keeps the SRT (Street and Racing Technology) portfolio stable at five models. Less weight and an expanded range of powertrains will give Chrysler a leg up in the CAFE battle.

PLATFORM: Significantly smaller and lighter than the current Chrysler 300–based Challenger, the Barracuda will sport a strut front suspension and multilink rear. The 'Cuda's new platform is engineered for global markets and will also underpin Alfa Romeo, Lancia, and Maserati coupes, sedans, and spiders [see "Smoked-Fish Spread," October 2012].

POWERTRAIN: Four-, six-, and eight-cylinder engines ranging from 2.0 liters to 6.2 liters, most with direct injection. At least one Hemi V-8 will continue, and a supercharged Hemi is a distinct possibility. The transmission choices should include conventional and dual-clutch automatics, plus a six- or seven-speed stick.

COMPETITION: Traditional Camaro and Mustang foes, plus Hyundai Genesis Coupe, Scion FR-S, Subaru BRZ.

WHAT MIGHT GO WRONG: New and improved Camaros and Mustangs could leave it in the dust of the Planet Fitness parking lot.

ESTIMATED ARRIVAL AND PRICE: Late 2014 as a 2015 model, with base prices ranging from mid-$20Ks to high-$40Ks.

The "Cuda" reboot has as little resemblance to the original as the GTO reboot had to its originals.

My friend Troy (on the left) and his brother Brett with Troy's '72 'Cuda. That was a fun car.

Ok- see if you can get this one. The progress of the vaunted Chevy Nova. Economy car ---> Muscle car ----> POS.

WTF, Chevy???? With muscle cars making a comeback, Chevy has performed admirably in its reboot of the Camaro- the car is truly sick. I believe it's time the Nova be restored to its former glory. Here we have a mock up of the "Chevy Code" which looks suspiciously like a first/second gen Nova. I think it's a good start, but they need to come with stronger, less bubbly lines if they want to put that SS badge on it with any credibility...

The Chevelle had a similar trajectory. The SS models were sweet. I drove a 72 Chevelle Malibu through high school. It only had a 350. By the late 70s only the Malibu continued and it was a boxy family car. Still light though. My friends older brother bought a 78 Malibu and dropped a souped up 350 in it. That thing was fast.

I don't doubt it. Did it look like this?

I have never liked those late 70s cars- too boxy for my sensibilities--- along the lines of the Cutlass Supreme. There sure are a lot of enthusiasts who do a whole lot to em though.

My cousin recently acquired a 67 Lincoln Continental.

Jet black, suicide doors, and he is dropping a 6.6L Duramax Diesel into it.

He's looking at 40 MPG and blowing cars off the road, too. So ridiculous.

This is sort of the goal:

Yup, except it was faded maroon with a few rust spots and standard rims and tires. That thing was so unassuming. He loved pulling next to traditional muscle cars and blowing them up off the line.
