This will be interesting. There has been lots of talk about the always on feature it will reportedly have. Many have been critical of this and the defense of this rumored feature on Twitter got the 720's creative director fired.

Yes the chilling effect has been self-evident in conversations with my friends that work on Xbox at Microsoft. On many occasions (over lunch, at a little league game, on the street, at the gym, at a movie, at church, etc) I have pressed for some tiny little crumb, but received nothing but stonewalling in return. Though, that may say more about me than about Microsoft.

I tend to agree with Orth's argument and dismissiveness about the criticism. Almost everything is "always on" these days. Computers are always on, cell phones, streaming devices like Roku, your cable set top box, etc. So what is the big deal if the Xbox is now too? Personally I'd prefer it. I am an infrequent gamer and it bugs me to death when I want to hop on to play a game or two only to have to download the latest update that takes 5 minutes. I'd rather the updates occur in the background when I am not playing so I don't have to wait to play.

I understand that. But 100% of my gaming is online anyway. I wonder what percentage of gamers are always connected online. I imagine it is significant.

Sounds awesome so far. Dedicated game DVR to upload game footage. Also, Xbox Live is currently supported by 15,000 servers. They are going to have 300,000 servers supporting Xbox One.
