    Tech question about Xbox 360

I bought a 360 for the family about a month ago, but now I'm having problems with it. It freezes up while it is loading whichever game is in the drive. It's not the discs, as they would all have to be bad for the problem.

Anyone experienced this same problem or have an idea what the problem could be? Perhaps a bad product slipped through control and ended up on the shelf at the retailer?

If you're seeing the disc error, cannot read disc screen all the time with all of your games you got a bad optical drive. This was more prevalent on earlier models. If you google search they have the models of the drives used with the problems based on build dates, etc. Since you just bought it, there may be some warranty on it. But if not, Microsoft will fix it for $100. I have heard of the penny trick and people opening consoles to fix theirs but then you're SOL if you really mess things up.

My brother's 360 had this same issue. Rather than ship it to MS he went and bought the arcade version which isn't much more than what it would have cost to fix and swapped the hard drives on top.

So now I have his busted 360 but don't care to get it fixed.

It's not the "cannot read disc" message. Sometimes, it doesn't even boot up to the logo screen, other times it starts to load the game but freezes.

          Hmmmm....never had those issues.

Have you ever had a red ring light up around the power button that is usually green?

I am sure Sizzle and some others could weigh in here. I have been out of the Xbox loop since I started sleeping with Gidget.

Haven't seen a red ring yet, but I've heard that that is bad.

EPU, I wish I could help. I have been lucky or something...no problems with my 360 ever.

Have you tried calling customer service?

Not yet. I'd rather have a solution that works rather than someone telling me that it's my fault it doesn't work.

I was going to tell you that it was probably your fault!

Did you put yourself through school by working in customer service?

You're the one being mean to IPU in the prostitute thread.

If it was my fault, I would admit it. I believe in accountability.

I say let the market speak for itself. Absorb the loss of your xbox and several hundred dollars, but refuse to purchase any more Microsoft products until they lower the price of the gaming console.

If enough people do as you do, you can purchase another 360 in a few years at a much cheaper price.
